I thought I would post this just to get others views.
I was in an outdoor type shop and the guy in there mentioned that the scouts, DoE and other such groups have stopped using aluminium pans?
Im not sure it is true, but it seemed a bit crazy as its the most affordable and goes on for ever if you look after it, it goes on the fire unlike titanium and thats all too expencive anyway, but it just seemed that he was so sure.
He reconed it was all to do with the link to alzheimer's and dementia! The official site states this below.....
"Aluminium – Very low levels of many metals are present in the brain. Aluminium is a toxic metal that is common in our everyday environment. Small amounts of it are found in water and food. Although initial studies linked aluminium toxicity with Alzheimer's disease, the link has not been proven despite continuing investigation. Importantly, there is no evidence to suggest that aluminium exposure increases your risk of dementia."
Ive heard all this before, if it is true and just not proven, im a bit buggerd, I love ali pots, bit late now I spose.

I've yet to hear of a link, lots of speculation and scaremongering but no link. Keep using your aluminium and doing crossword's chances are you'll be fine
I use it myself at times, I even drink pop and beer out of the can
EDIT: If you're worried pop down to your GP http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healt ... entia.html

Re: Alzheimer's, dementia and aluminium pans!
Im not bothered, the official site says its not a problem, im just surprised I keep hearing it.
and yes we all drink out of ali cans, but they have a coating on the inside and its more about heating water or food in an uncoated pot.
either way like I said to the bloke in the shop, I bet they still buy trangia stoves and they are still ali?

As far as I know the scouts have said no such thing about alu pans that fellow is talking out of his backside. I'm sure if the TSA said something like this there would be a riot we all use trangias and alu cooking pots
Not planning for the end of the world just to survive till normality resumes, while sticking to the scout moto be prepared!
Still considering do I want to survive the end of the world or deck chair on the front lawn with a cold beer?

Re: Alzheimer's, dementia and aluminium pans!
At the risk of sounding a nut - I avoid aluminium. I even go so far as to hunt out alu -free antiperspirant. I have no proof of any risk to health and no proof that it's risk free either. There are other things I also avoid. We all have a choice, and in some ways I'm more concerned about things like this /things that get 'slid' past us into the food/environment, than I am about a big SHTF situation.
I don't like a lot of the things that were said after the Camelford accident - it all looks a bit tinfoil/coverup to me. I know we're not discussing conspiracy theories in here so I'm not going to go on about it. And I appreciate that in a SHTF situation I'm making my life harder and may have to ditch the long term ideals in favour of not starving to death! I don't much like tin cans and plastic chemicals in bottled water - I still store lots of water in plastic bottles and some tin cans of food in case the time comes when I need it.
Awareness - Choice - that's what it's all about

I have just changed out my Home cooking pans which were Teflon Coated Ali for Plain Stainless steel. Just got a feeling in the water that's all, no links or evidence at all.
