Just wanted to share my success with a £2.90 bargain from eBay. I won it at auction so think I got it a little cheaper than the buy it now price. For the £2.90 I received two 5w bulbs that directly clip onto my 12v batteries. I've used them today but it was still daylight. I shall be taking some night time selfies as evidence of their awesomeness later. I'm guesstimating that my battery is about 50wh (7ah) and so, I think I'm right in saying that my battery is going to light one of those puppies up for ten hours. It's an old battered motorcycle though and won't hold charge for long, but it's good as a buffer to use between my solar panel and my gadgets. I do have a 100ah (1250wh?) leisure battery but I'm hoping that these bulbs with add a little more versatility to my old knackered recycled battery - it does hold charge for a few days.

These things would be perfect for blackout preparation, but I'm thinking I'll be using it in my shed and when I go camping. I got the idea to buy one because I was coveting the very expensive Goal Zero Light-a-Life. http://www.goalzero.com/p/18/light-a-life-led-lantern/ The only downside that I can see about the cheapy bulbs is that they come with a 12 month warranty but no suggestion of how many hours they should be good for - the GZ version 20000 hours. There is just no way to compare that.

Good O!
I have no intuitive skills whatsoever - anyone got any ideas for a makeshift protective case for when it gets thrown in a bag? I'm thinking there must be something similar to a banana guard holder thingy.
