The Swedish Army LK35 and LK70 both have excellent reviews although some find making a few small mods make the world of difference and others are happy as they come.
Just some food for thought
If at first you don't succeed, excessive force is usually the answer.
Smudge is spot on, the bergan (I have 2) are just great, more room than you need, but everything pulls down tight with the compression straps, you can zip on side pouches, I have a british radio pack that they also go on, I like that its interchangable.

If you use the phase "man up" you have alot to learn.

Right, I've decided to go with the Northern Ireland Patrol Pack.
I just found one for £15.00 so that'll do me nicely.
I was wondering though about their sizes. Some site say 30L, other say 38L and i've even seen 45L bandied about? Whatever, this bag is much bigger than the one i'm using now which is supposed to be 30L but in reality is much much smaller. I'm looking forward to getting it all sorted out and having a jaunt out nearby for an overnighter.

Sorry to resurrect this thread . Possibly good that you went for the patrol pack rather than the Polish jobbie , I came across this review recently and the author ( a Dane who seems to collect and bitch about military gear) is very scathing about almost every aspect of this bag from the camouflage , build ,and down to the name tag not having a plastic strip finally calling it little better than a potato sack with straps.
For what it's worth I've got one of those patrol packs and I'm happy with it. http://surplusmania.weebly.com/rucksack ... ombat-sack
I'm plus one for the patrol pack, mine is loaded 'till its overflowing but seems very robust and well built not to mention its comfortable to wear.
If anything i want to trim down the contents. I think the bigger a rucksack is the more likely you fill it with stuff you just fancy having along and wont use.
Only downside is its camo - that could be overcome by taking a spray can from halfords to it in a colour of my choice if i can be bothered.
