ALLOTMENTS UNDER THREAT

Post by Hamradioop »

It would appear that the next target for disposal by some councils are allotments. Please sign the petition at changes.org. https://www.change.org/p/eric-pickles-s ... d_trending

Councils across the UK are currently selling off allotment land to developers, and if we don’t act now we will see these special plots of land slip away from us. Many allotments are on land that has become valuable and the last few years has seen a disturbing trend where councils have increased requests to deregulate allotments in favour of property development that do not always best serve local needs.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the council selling allotments was always thus. Back in the 80's I took over Dad's allotment at the North end of the village. Then it was sold off for the bypass. We moved to the South end,and that was sold off for the leisure centre 2years later! Then after much campaigning we got new ground and 18 years later it is earmarked for housing!
One reason I retreated to my (not unsubstantial) garden. I did rent sone ground privately but that was built on too! It is a problem indeed.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
