What preps are you doing this week? part 2.
Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.
Cant add much to this thread at the moment, but I am going back to my practicing of intermittent fasting which I have tried before and have enjoyed but struggled with and rarely think I should take it more seriously. I am still doing my home workout and am enjoying that too. My main focus at the moment is health and fitness and seeing whether I can go through times of lack and not worry too much about it.

I'm jealous of all the stuff folk have been doing with theirs, I've not had much success with carrots but I'll be trying another batch soon and I'm desperate to do my own spicy beef jerky.
If you blanch the onions and carrots first they rehydrate much better, mushrooms stay hard if you don't blanch and refuse to hydrate again. Blanching the onions first also takes a lot of the pong away, I found the smell similar to cheese and onion crisps!! Yummy!!

Thanks for that Decaff, I've got a book with all sorts of info in it but being a boy, I'm not big on reading the instructions. I'll take your advice though. I've bought some cheap frying steak to marinade as step one of 'operation Jerky', I'll cut up and leave it to step for a couple days before dehydrating the crap out of it. Fingers crossed.....Decaff wrote:Deeps wrote:On the dehydrating thing, I'm still finding my feet but its not just garlic that reeks the place out, both me and the missus have noticed that we're a bit whiffy with the onions I've been doing. Restocking on my EDC, proud to say it came in handy the other day. On the way home I tripped and got a massive gash on my arms that would not stop bleeding, got to the point of were I started feeling dizzy. Had some wound closers and a bandage thankfully, it gave me a real idea of what extra I need in my EDC. So I went out and added some wound cleaner some alcohol wipes to it, I did have water to wash the blood but that is something you should never really do. Not related to the incident but I just started planting some potatoes and carrots to my small farm, along side it im growing chia seed and apples. I have also bought a brand new machete for my bug out kit, been a pretty good week.

I'm dehydrating some papaya, not for long term, but just to keep it fresh for later as its BB date is here! Also have replaced my LED lantern and have stocked up on batteries for it as it's reorder time.
On top of that I have changed from intermittent fasting to proper fasting (2 days water and then juice) for health purposes. If I can get my digestive tract clean then that can be a good thing.

Aaaah, the big tin shuffle.
It must be spring...................
Dragged out everything tinny and had a good going thro of all things tinned to check condition, dates (I know, I know they don't necessarily apply but when it comes to fish or the new ring pull style cans I'm cautious) and of course the occasional - what on earth possessed anyone (that's me in case you were wondering) to buy six tins of this weird food we're unlikely ever to eat unless judgement day has arrived. It has made me search the internet for odd ingredients to trial recipes out on unsuspecting household members
Dodgy tins - in looks and also in contents now transferred to the normal tin cupboard for everyone to ignore until it becomes imperative we eat them or feed the fish to the cats!
Result? The cupboards look super organised and tidy and I feel I have done a good deed. It also highlights the 'must buy more of' items when you see them lined up and the, really, do we honestly need that many tins of sweetcorn?
It's also made me realise that we have more food stored than I thought
So chuffed with myself
Also, just how many bars constitutes too much chocolate (or is that an oxymoron?) Decaff, I welcome your thoughts on this subject!

Got some more AA and AAA hybrid batteries. Just about everything I possess takes these. For the couple of things that don't, I invested a few pennies in battery adaptors.
Got the 12v lighting system going in the shed.
@Stasher you can never have too much Chocolate. Don't forget to rotate regularly
