Prepping on a budget

Hi guys, i was having a nosey on poundland to see if they had what wanted in stock for when i next go and i saw these, they have 10ltr water carriers (perfect for a car) and expanding water bottles, as well as the aluminium ones also a foldaway rucksack, perfect for compartmentalizing different things

I love rummaging around the cheapy shops, Frey Bentos, wind up torches, all sorts of stuff. Some of it is crap though and some is overpriced. They are good for a nosey though.

Me too Deeps I LOVE Fray Bentos, i could quite happily live off their steak pies till the end of days I've found the same with charity shops, you can some real bargains that wouldn't normally find anywhere else

My EDC is mainly cheap junky stuff, no point of carrying expensive gear just in case it gets lost. Prepping on a budget is not to bad, I bought a £3 junk bushcraft knife three years ago and it has got me by the entire way no problems. If you can work with the junk then when you use the expensive stuff it will be a breeze, I know from personal experience

I'm a fairly recent convert to the joys of Fray Bentos, I hadn't had one in probably 30 years or so and a couple of mates were talking about the 'joys' of them as 'naughty food' so I thought I'd give it a go, I admit I was sceptical, there was probably an element of snobbery but apart from the 'snake and pigmy' I love them all. I was in Tesco's today and they were wanting between £2.19 -£2.49 but most of the cheapo shops do a fair range for a quid.

I now do a 'FBF', Fray Bentos Friday, usually have a couple of mates round for 'luncheon' and have chips and beans with them, proper kiddy food, mmmmm. I normally eat pretty healthily (although it maybe doesn't look it ) so I quite enjoy my FBF.

Good grief i wouldn't dare spend that much on a flaming pie, no matter how nice it is! Steak will do me just fine!lol It's amazing the prices they charge
And i love the idea of FBF, i might make that a new thing in my house for me and The Bearded Wonder Date night? haha

Dont forget to remove the lid off the FB pie before trying to cook it in the oven... I heard the result of this 2 floors up ( and no i didnt put it in the oven)


The cheap shops are great most are stocking up on camping gear at the moment too which might be worth a nosey (cheap stoves /gas) our local tesco has a camping end isle with ponchos for £1 along with inflatable pillows, tent pegs, camping gaz stove and cartridges (cv 270 immsmc) the water containers that collapse are not great but for just over £1 i get them for camping then bin them when we leave it will cost more to clean them next trip.... )


lidl had camping stuff in on the 27th (got my self a new thermo electric cool box (camping fridge which is A++ energy rated at 80kw per year ) )

All for keeping costs down! Got lots of bits and pieces for little in poundland and tesco clearances, Windup torch, compass, plastic boxes, first aid stuff(bought better quality of some things for main store). Meant I could have things in different places, windup torches in every room, car, shed etc.

Charity shops are great too. got a like new pair of Berghaus boots for £5! Auctions can be good for "old" equipment and tools. Got a small, old but working electric butter churn for £5, all I need now is the milking cow!(working on it)

Maybe we should have a new topic of this weeks GENUINE best buys although I have noticed that some supermarkets do not have the same deals nationwide this would give a heads up to the rest of us when someone comes across something. I know i've gone out looking after someones mentioned something of interest to me on this site and given a review of how good or bad it was.
