I have been thinking of when the stuff hits the fan, will it be a big bang or a drawn out whimper. I have ruled out zombies, ain't seen any yet, and the Hollywood scenario of the apocalypse sounds exciting, but I hope implausible. I favour the slow drip, drip of power cuts, attacks on the banks computers by a country way to the east ( not the Japanese ). My local Co-op had a problem one day with the machines unable to accept cards. Lots of people went outside and hunted out cash machines. The ones that were working anyway. I remember not too long ago, the chaos caused by one banks computer failure, anyone with that bit of plastic could't buy petrol or food, or draw cash out. Multiply that and add in a few more computer attacks and off goes the power, the hospitals. Can anyone think of anything these days that isn't controlled buy a computer? So, I'm not getting a BOB but am hunkering down ( I'm too old for heading for the hills ) while the country slowly unravels. Hopefully the Army will be stable enough to bring a little order. As for Zombies, there are going to be a lot of near enoughs with cold turkey calling the shots, drugs, booze, ciggys, there are going to be a lot of withdrawals going on. Not a pretty scenario. I will miss the coffee though.

The slow descent has started. Gradual decline in living standards, quality of life, social cohesion, and ambitions. it will be punctuated by more sudden disruptions, and of course, TEOTWAWKI may happen due to sudden shock or failure. Computer failure is a biggy, it has to be said. Have a read of The Arch-Druid Report, it's pretty good.

I wasn't being entirely serious Andy, I like 'proper' coffee and the ground stuff has a pretty short 'shelf life' anyway. Good luck growing coffee beans in the UK while fending off the zombies mate.Yorkshire Andy wrote:Ahh but a stockpile will only last so long think seeds and have the kit to dig up your garden / yard along with some fert and insect/ herbicides and plant crops to keep you going long after the last tin of spam has goneDeeps wrote:Isn't that why we stockpile stuff ?Dicon wrote:I have been thinking of when the stuff hits the fan, will it be a big bang or a drawn out whimper.
