My new 120w briefcase solar panel

Post by dangerman »

I went for it - I paid £122 (they gave me a small refund and I ended up paying £114) and purchased a generic crappy chinese solar panel. Bit of a gamble, but for the occasional use that it will probably see I didn't want to spend double that on a posh Bosch. I sent the first one back because all four points on the case broke, proving the dodgy build quality.

This thing doesn't come with a case to transport it though, so I've kept the cardboard box with it for protection. Any ideas of what else I could stick it in? I also bought the Numax Accubox to put my battery in. I'll make a video later of the Accubox, it's not brilliant. But here's one I made of the solar panel just in case anyone was interested...

Just looked at your vids, very good if somewhat untidy LOL. BTW you Op sec is compromised by them.

you have given out lots of info that could be used to identify you to anyone interested in tracking you down. in you video you tell us your occupation and we see pictures of other family members , plus you are proud to be a scouser, we can now limit our search to scouse land if we want to track you down.

Hamradioop - thanks mate, I'll see what I can do in the edit to get rid of stuff - I still don't really understand the danger of people knowing who I am. My neighbours all know and everyone I meet. I'm just naive I suppose.

Mottram, it just has typical crocodile connections for 12v batteries.

It you chuck this panel in your car you could just connect to the car battery and run any appliances off that without worry of it dying when it's time to go home. No need for a leisure battery for occasional use.

Opsec only really applies if you're worried about being 'found out'. If you're cool with your online presence and what your neighbours know then its not an issue mate. I would guess for a lot of preppers they don't want people to know that they've got a big stash of food and equipment, if you're known as 'Dave the prepper' down your local then I wouldn't worry about it.

For myself only my missus has a reasonable idea of what we've got, I've got one mate who knows broadly that I've got some preps and a neighbour who without being 'officially' a prepper has sort of guessed because he's got a similar mindset. We're all different though, some seem to have extended family networks etc, there's no hard and fast rule.

Aye, I'm not really a preppers prepper at all, really. I just have some camping stuff I suppose. Basic emergency preparedness is all I'm at, along with outdoor hobbies.

I'll be cautious of my videos though, I do appreciate the heads up. I don't want to be attracting a load of attention.
