I bought one of those too - the one I had had a promised 20amps of power. And was utter cack. It gave my phone about one and a quarter charges - less than 5000mah of performance, indicating that the batteries couldn't be more than 10000. I sent it back and bought the empty one for 99p to put my own 18650s into. Problem is, the 18650s I have are crap and so I'm still screwed.

Anyway, you should try the actually 20000mah Anker next time you have a spare £20. It really is a revelation in my world and I'm very glad I took the gamble.

20amps? I'm lucky if I get 3amps from the 100w panel on the roof of my van.

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

Assuming 100% efficiency and full sunlight: 100w / 13.8v = 7.2A

Take into account the efficiency of the panel, the angle to the sun, any shade from adjacent objects, losses throught he charge controller and 2-3A is probably about right. Plus, most solar panels run a few volts higher so the output in Amps might be lower

I always take any numbers and halve them so anything better becomes a nice surprise

I can get about 10 charges out of it to half capavity from which ever Chinese version I got I also have a double 18650 charger unit

Will look onto the ankler at some point :)

Just hope the panel is as good at the reviews

this is why im waiting on Itsy to respond....

as a small netbook battery is round about 5ah alone my netbook uses:

4300mAh 48Whr 6 cell Lithium-ion battery

but it charges off 12v only not 5v so that scratches out the small panel and lithium battery

http://www.duracelldirect.co.uk/laptop- ... 37de2.html

and been a "step up" charger your looking at 10+ ah to charge it due to the losses in stepping up voltage

at this point you might be better looking at a 24v system (or 2 12v batteries then link for charging)

as for radio charging take the common beofeng units it depends on what you have

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_10_22/6656 ... Zero_.html

but again it boils down to a 12v host

http://www.dx.com/p/car-charger-w-sprin ... b6Ty_lViko

Kindles / tablets/ mobile phones

lend them selves to usb based charging (if its comes with a usb charger chances are your sorted for this roll....

or a car charger or usb from 12v which is more efficient and easy to achive added this 1a usb and 2x 12v car socket unit to mrs andys today which cost me £1 just needs an inline switch adding

Image

There is no hard and fast answer to the question

then your into another catch 22

portability vs fixed

my 220 ah lead acid battery bank takes 2 adults to haul it and the solar cell is fairly big too

where as the smaller lithium and smaller panel are packable and more user friendly (unless the lithium battery catches fire then all is lost as no one at home is putting the fecker out )

but vs a larger panel you need a brighter day for it to do any good..... but more things have 12v car adaptors to buy / or already come with

its swings and roundabouts as above a really good light weight hight capacity 12v system = £2000+

On the back of yours and others write ups on here I bought a photonic universe system, and tbh I can't praise it enough.
I got the 30w version, which I'll probably expand later next month with another 30w panel, and I could only afford a 70ah caravan battery, it's charged my iPad, phone, kindle and some other bits on a munter of a rainy day all at once after running a trial emergency light off the battery yesterday night.

I wonder if there is a limit to the number of panels you can run through the charger unit?

I'm gonna look at wind power next :D

Oh, I put a soldered in car socket on the load lead too like yours, I've hard wired it as it were, into the house through a hole in the back door frame and eventually it will be mounted onto the wall as an alternate power socket.
Now, just get the car chargers for everything, piece of cake. Well happy bunny.

I've also cut the plugs off the car chargers for devices I don't have any more and I'll solder them onto the leads to some 10w led floodlights I've bought, to run as emergency lights. Proper plug and play.
