My new Bed......... (well hammock)

Post by Yorkshire Andy »

been offered a weekend wild camping with some mates so not to be the only one wussing it in a tent ive treated myself to this

http://www.greenmanbushcraft.co.uk/shel ... ammock.htm

and a sleeve to suit..

anyway lacking trees in the garden i lashed it up in the workshop between a very substantial bolted to the wall shelf and the half arsed blocked up door way with a cargo strap laced through the holes to give me a semmi secure lashing point..

so there it is :D

once i braved the crumbling structure and the shelf and laid in it ... Bliss without any padding i was on my way to sleep (that and suffering a bad cough and felling shite) i could have very easily fallen asleep in it

the optional sleeve is a boon slide it over the straps at one end

then to pack up slide it over the tarp

and stuff in stuff sack (the sleeve helps you keep it dry if you pack up in the wet under a tarp...

but the little play in the workshop got me thinking.....

in a SHTF you might end up coming across a old industrial building or such looking at work for example i scoped out about 10 spots between machine legs or gantry's and structural roof supporting girders that would make a good substitute tree

or outside old concrete fence posts or telegraph posts (if they are close together)

or bridge supports under road bridges even between two cars using tow bars or any other firm struture etc.

makes me want to bugger off to the woods and camp out :ugeek:

Great hammock. :)

Careful, it can get addictive.....

and expensive :o
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Used a camping hammock with tarp for years, much more comfortable sleep than on the ground. personally I like cycle trips so light weight hammock is a major advantage, your comments about hanging the hammock in buildings etc is very true, I've slept between fence posts or even between seating in railway stations! enjoy

Thanks i have aa few options to try. Such as the old school foam camping mat

And a few self inflating camp mats ranging from 3/4 length to one with a built in pillow
