Coffee grounds to stop slugs
Coffee grounds to stop slugs
If you can get hold of a lot of coffee grounds you can put it on your veg beds to stop the slugs getting to your veggies, a trip to the coffee bars might get you a lot every week.
Re: Coffee grounds to stop slugs
I'm trying Nemotodes this year, if they dont work I will give the coffee a go.
Re: Coffee grounds to stop slugs
I`m just resorting to the old beer in a saucer and hope it keeps the snails off. No probls with slugs here, funny enough, but snails like golf balls and because I have a stone wall one side of my veg plot, they hide in there overday and sneak out at night to nibble all my veggies. Last year two rows of salad leaves vanished overnight. I came out and there were a handful of fat, glutted, greedy
snails in the rows, wee buggers.
So this year I`m hoping they get drunk and die, frankly. Yup, I`m evil. No fluffy snail-huggers here I tells ye.

Re: Coffee grounds to stop slugs
We have millions of the bleeding things here. The best day I had last year was when a flock of Starlings landed in the back garden with their chicks (there where hundreds of them). They went on a slug massacre and were feeding them to all the the chicks. I just wish they would come back a bit more often
Re: Coffee grounds to stop slugs
if using the beer method to stop slugs how many traps do you need? As in is it one every metre squared or more?
I am so fed up of growing veg and not getting any myself

Re: Coffee grounds to stop slugs
Not sure owl, I have a veg plot about forty foot by ten to twelve, I`ll put out saucers every couple of yards and see how that goes. The birds round here don`t seem to like our snails!
Re: Coffee grounds to stop slugs
I think i will be really generous and give them lots. Plus I worked hard all winter building up the birds by constant feeding. Hopefully I will have a better year.
