Hello gang,
I have couple of emergency radios that I think I need to replace.
The general spec of what I have are:
3 x led light
am/fm radio
input usb socket to charge battery
hand crank to charge battery
solar panel to charge battery
outpout socket to charge other devise via battery or hand crank.
These work great as a whole but the rechargeable batteries are the type you can get in a dect phone, 3x 2/3 AAA batteries wrapped together with a power lead connector.
One of the battery packs have failed so I am googling to find a replacement.
I can find them ok but it made me think of when I was out in the field and that it could/would be easier to locate single AA or AAA rechargeable (and non) batteries.
With that in mind does anyone know or recommend a radio with the specs above but will use 1 or more individual rechargeable batteries (and can be charged via the crank, solar panel etc). I have seen some units say they take AA or AAA batteries but they also have a built in rechargeable battery pack which is the dect phone type I mentioned earlier.
So....over to you my friends.
Cheers and thanks you in advance for your advice.

Can't comment on this one but it seems to tick most of your boxes:

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.
Re: Need to replace solar/hand crank radio
Thanks for that Hoipoloi,
I have seen those around before. I guess having 2 battery compartments is better than 1. I have also been toying with the idea of getting a solar powered battery charger, so if I get rechargable AAA's then that could help get what I want as well.
This units having a normal USB port also expands on what you can recharge as well.
Cheers again.

Re: Need to replace solar/hand crank radio
I've gone for a 14W Anker solar panel which has 2 usb connectors, I've got both aa/aaa and 18650/14500 chargers that can be charged by usb's. So far I've only used the panel to charge an old phone to see how it goes. I've read mixed reviews on the chargers with built in panels, I've got a few smaller power chargers with a 20000 MaH (a cheapo job so I'll see what its like when it arrives) on the way. This seems a more flexible way to my thinking, we'll all have our own views on it. There's loads of stuff out there and I've had a fair bit of inspiration from different threads on this site. The hand crank on that radio gives you another option, it might be a ball ache (well wrist ache) using it to put a charge on things but gives you more versatility.FlashPan wrote:Thanks for that Hoipoloi,

I have this one and would recommend it.

I've just been in the loft to check it after nearly two years, still got lots of charge and a great signal. It was £1 dearer when I bought it.
I also bought this torch from Duronics, it's a great bit of kit.

Sorry for late reply but I have several degen de13s and they're the balls mate. Brilliant little things, I use mine daily. The one in the kitchen is 100% solar charged and mostly gets use over the weekends. It's never had aaa batteries in it.
