Gear Addict

Since I recently got into prepping, I can't believe what a gear addict I've turned into. I haven't even started on the main food preps yet but on everything else I seem to need multiples of everything. "That looks good, I'll have two"!

I'm guessing I'm not alone in this condition. How many torches, knives, multi-tools, water filters, bags and pouches do we need?

You buy 1 for normal everyday use, buy another for your bug out bag and another as a spare.

Yeah i went to go outdoors the other day and spent way to much and it seems like i got two of everything in the shop haha, ☺

Yes but often you find that your learning starts with the toys and then you can work out what is actually useful and what isnt.

I have been in this mode for a long time, but have been as long as can remember, since my first visit to a surpluss store and my saturday job in Millets, i went on to be full time management.

i have had more tents than anyone i know and am still trying different ones, cook kits, torches, knives, sleeping mats/beds, backpacks, you name it ive probably tried one.

I ramped up my testing over the last 2 years and i think i have finaly hit saturation!

I have bought everything i saw that id not tried at bootsales for as little money as possible, but i now have enough mostly second hand stuff to open a shop.

My point is, this is the first Christmas that i look at the 200 things in my watch list and there is very little that i really need, or even want to try, nothing i havent got a variation of already.

Im sort of a bit sad about it, apart from the tiny gas burner Sniper recently posted about, ive to seen anything new and exciting, i just bought a pair of british issue desert warm weather gloves and ive been putting that off for ever because
they were too expencive.

Its a good thing as i now know i can focus on other things, i now know what i like, what im comfortable using, my treks up the woods are becoming lighterbecause ive got less i want to try out.

just try everything you like the look of, you will find what you like and it might not be what other people rave about, but then they might have not tried everything, if something makes a job easier than the way you do it, thats a good thing, just dont think because its expencive or has a name on it of someone on TV its the best. My surpless gear that i bought to keep my fishing kit in is still in my cupboard (after 15 years) and doing fine, it cost about £20, my mates top brand brand gear that cost him nearly a grand was in the bin after about 3 seasons fishing!

Im just waiting to be excited again, but in the mean time i can start saving my money

The more I learn the more I need. The idea of the more you learn the less you need only really stands true for bush craft and living in the woods, even if you were made homeless it is really not a great option.

The more I learn tends to tailor the gear I get. Lots of things get upgraded and replaced, old stuff is stored for future use or trade.
