Can uncooked pasta and sphagetti be stored in a freezer ?

Post by cornerstone »

To extend it's shelf life i was thinking of storing at last some sphaghetti that way, not much room needed and a good bulk has anyone tried it ?

I'm sure you can, if you make sure it's in a properly sealed, dry storage container. The shelf life of dried pasta (as opposed to the fresh stuff you find in the chilled aisle) is years in a properly sealed dry storage container, or the original packaging, anyway, so I'm not sure there's a need.

Not sure it would extend the shelf life to be honest, it's dried food, but freezing first to kill off any critters before long term storage is always a good idea.

Not that I've ever tried but if it is dried pasta wouldn't it go wet and soggy?

I've frozen rice, pasta and flour before, in original packaging then inside a freezer bag for a week to kill off any potential critters, as long as you keep air tight it shouldn't cause any problems. Bring up to room temperature before decanting or storing for long term.
