Hi. I'm new here. Nice to see a dedicated UK site, rather than all the other generic sites who give you advice that is useless in the UK "I have 3 grenades and a rocket launcher in my gear I recommend an Uzi!" like what?! Useless information in the UK.
I look forward to reading lots of great stuff here.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
What got you started in the prepping lifestyle?

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Not having and needing, pretty much. That leading to "What if I need?". I am not exactly a major prepper, I don't have the space to store a lot of stuff but I have a 5.11 Rush 24 backpack that I have weighted down with all kinds of things so that if I needed to I could grab it and at least have a small bit of shelter from the elements, tools etc. But I mainly just like reading about what other people do and carry because it gives me ideas for things to either add to my main EDC or in my backpack extended EDC that could be useful "in case".
If I were rich, however.... lol I would be living somewhere with lots of space and I would buy all kinds of things. So much in fact that I would have to prioritize what I would want in a bug out bag, either that or stash BOB's in other locations I'd have so much stuff. But as it is I work part time with not a hell of a lot of money left over. But I do and buy what I can.

Knowledge is power. The more you know, the less you carry.
Hence my 120 litre rucksac.

What ever I have, it's never enough. My backpack weighs about 5KG and that is bad enough. I need a backpack with Mary Poppins technology so that I can have everything, food, NBC kit, chopsticks, insect repellent, bicycle, no idea. Just everything imaginable!
You have a 120 Liter backpack? I think I could make that amount of space work... but that would mean it would weigh at minimum 15kg which would cripple me. 5KG already can get to the point over a week of walking to and from work where it hurts my shoulders. Now, granted I do not have a proper "backpackers" backpack which has nice padded wings with a belt or anything. I could thread a belt on mine but I have been told doing so would only serve to stop it moving around and essentially nothing to help carry higher loads because of the way the backpack is not designed for such things. But my backpack is literally mostly an extended EDC, it's not really meant for going away on long trips or what ever. It's just a place for my stuff, as George Carlin might say. Can't carry everything on my person. I think I am at my limit for that already...

Sounds good, Morthawt, very practical in terms of the everyday - recently, we've had a lot of people thinking about what to carry in terms of being presentable in the office etc, and I think thats a really important part of things - we're not all smallholders in the back of beyond. A Get Home bag, rather than a BOB
I'm with you on the need for indefinite expansion a la Mary Poppins, though I'm a big science fiction fan, and I'd probably go for Dr Who
