No problem if you don't mind them being different lengths.sethorly wrote:You can hem all my trousers if you need some practice using that thing.
Krav Maga was developed for the Israeli special forces, it was designed to be lethal from the ground up, that's not generally how it's taught in the UK but don't be under any illusions, it's not a sport, it's to end a fight fast, I would say don't get too bogged down in one fighting style though, it can lead to group think and overconfidence, some of what is taught in EVERY martial art is nonsense and Krav Maga is no exception, although I'm not slating it, it is one of the better ones for self defence purposes, not saying don't train it by any means, I'm just saying to look outside it too.shocker wrote:The problem with the F-S system is that it is fighting to KILL. That knowledge is a big, dangerous burden to carry. Krav Maga with its focus on getting out of danger may be a better choice...but my knowledge of that is not deep so I may be wrong, often am.
So is there a version for the over 50's? A sort of " Uncle Buck" self defence, because I'm not a fast runnerJamesey1981 wrote:Krav Maga was developed for the Israeli special forces, it was designed to be lethal from the ground up, that's not generally how it's taught in the UK but don't be under any illusions, it's not a sport, it's to end a fight fast, I would say don't get too bogged down in one fighting style though, it can lead to group think and overconfidence, some of what is taught in EVERY martial art is nonsense and Krav Maga is no exception, although I'm not slating it, it is one of the better ones for self defence purposes, not saying don't train it by any means, I'm just saying to look outside it too.
I recommend Ameri-do-te, the deadliest street fighting style ever developed.Plymtom wrote:So is there a version for the over 50's? But for true Uncle Buck defence you need to learn golf....
Im aware of the origins of K-M but as you say, thats not whats taught in this country where the focus is to get you out of a situation...not in the dock. The problems with following the F-S system from a book is, well I already said. Personally I come from a military family and background and was taught F-S as a child and youth and have found it a heavy burden to carry. I am not grateful to my elders in the least for that.Jamesey1981 wrote:Krav Maga was developed for the Israeli special forces, it was designed to be lethal from the ground up, that's not generally how it's taught in the UK but don't be under any illusions, it's not a sport, it's to end a fight fast, I would say don't get too bogged down in one fighting style though, it can lead to group think and overconfidence, some of what is taught in EVERY martial art is nonsense and Krav Maga is no exception, although I'm not slating it, it is one of the better ones for self defence purposes, not saying don't train it by any means, I'm just saying to look outside it too.shocker wrote:The problem with the F-S system is that it is fighting to KILL.
