Not sure if this link has been posted before but a poster over on lsg seems to have had a great result from using the site. http://www.landshare.net/
It seems like a great idea to me
Landshare brings together people who have a passion for home-grown food, connecting those who have land to share with those who need land for cultivating food. Since its launch through River Cottage in 2009 it has grown into a thriving community of more than 55,000 growers, sharers and helpers.
It’s for people who:
•Want to grow veg but don’t have anywhere to do it
•Have a spare bit of land they’re prepared to share
•Can help in some way – from sharing knowledge and lending tools to helping out on the plot itself
•Support the idea of freeing up more land for growing
•Are already growing and want to join in the community
It began with the tiny seed of an idea – and it’s growing and growing
I just signed up to this to see what it was like, I have enough to do with my own garden so wont be taking up the options but there are offers of sharing 2 allotments and the use of someones back garden all within 5 minutes of me.
Seems to be a workable idea, not just to be able to grow more of your own food but also to learn about it as well from more experienced growers
Really amazed to find people relatively near me - 20/25 miles. Usually all these things are away down south or in Edinburgh. And I found a tiny Borders village who have a community council scheme building lots of raised beds & give them to applicants to grow veg in, on the village common.
