You have to put a strip of vacuum bag in the mylar baghobo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 10:30 pmOoh, I was wondering if I could use my Mylar bags that way. Thanks!Stonecarver wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 7:05 pm With the dry goods ie rice lentils I use my vacuum sealer with my mylar bags to suck air out from then. Add a oxygen absorber for extra safety

Not worried about powering the whole house, just eating hot food, getting a brew, seeing through the dark, and staying warm.

Seriously need a like button!!! Thanks for this! I had no idea the ribbed bit of the foodsaver bags was to provide an air channel. Makes sense now I think about it!Stonecarver wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:11 pmhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sixum02DqV8

Both welcome A big plus is you use less oxygen absorbers this way and you can actually see air being removed and not have to wait days to see if it works.
Also if you use the largest mylar bags you can fill up a whole bucket with rice lentils pasta etc and then use the nozzle of vacumm to suck air out from one corner. After you put a 2000cc oxygen absorber in.

Finally watched the linked vid, that's a smart idea, thanks for sharing it. I've watched a few of his vids before but he seemed a bit 'excitable' but watched a couple of his food storing ones and they're good.Stonecarver wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:11 pmhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sixum02DqV8

Took me a while to get the hand of doing this. CP omitted to mention that you have to make sure the bottom of the strip has to actually touch the food in the mylar bag before the vacuum sealer can begin sucking air out properly. Not sure what having the plastic in the bag after it has been sealed will do to the food.
