And tins of corned beef and ham etc. I've cleared out all the kitchen gadgets I don't use and now have some space for tins this winter. Useless stuff like the easiyo and the fat fryer just taking up room.
I may be talking to the converted but here goes:

Very ordinary sliced supermarket ham is @£10 a kilo

1Kg joint of boiling gammon is £3.40 at Tesco.

Vacuum packer on ebay £20
Electric food slicer at Argos is @£30
sealer bags are about 5p each if you buy 100 at a time.

Do the maths, the sealer and slicer will pay for themselves quickly in in the meantime you enjoy preservative free sliced gammon ham on your sarnies plus you can slice and pack other joints of meat, save a fortune over ready sliced.

All good points.

I constantly have to remind myself of the wealth of knowledge Forum members have on here.

I must remind all members both new and old of two things.

1. Never be afraid to ask a question however stupid it may seem.

2. Never be afraid to post what you might think is already known.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

rik_uk3 thanks yes, I know that's the serious real prepper's way of doing it.. But we're old, I'm tired and ill, and my kitchen is the size of a phone box. Nowhere to keep kitchen gadgets and no ooomph to use them! So now taking the lazy easy way on everything!

Restocking and auditing the first aid / medical cupboard and shifting it to the cupboard under the stairs as it's taken over nearly 2x shelves in the food larder unit and a stack box on top of the fridge

Was funny when the paramedics came to a poorly Mrs A and he asked if we had any paracetamol I chucked Mrs a a box and about 5 foils dropped out of one box Infront of him (40 tablets ) as I'd condensed everything filling the boxes to the brim... Still easy to identify what's what but more space in the cupboard ..

Like we discussed if it's covid and we all got it 3 adults popping 8 pills a day each we'd struggle to keep in with the stuff with the Max 2 boxes per person in the shops if we did online or reliance on a friend to go shopping
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

I went through our first aid gear a day or two ago. Painkillers are THE important thing for us. I have serious back and knee problems, which I deal with ( without) drugs most of the time. As for OTC medicine, bandages etc. We now have it in one place. I do have to agree with you: if the family had Covid-19- or old fashioned Influenza ( is that still around? ),you would soon burn through medicine.Winter is around the corner,so I think we will review our stocks.

As an aside, according to that nice scientist chap on the BBC who seems to live in his podcasting studio, there is a real risk for influenza for this year and next. We've generally lost our own immunity to it over the last 18 months, plus the WHO have struggled to source the flu strains they use to create the vaccine for this year as there has been little flu about. What they have created is still worth getting when available (this is very important!), but it won't be quite as good as in a normal year.

Needless to say, I'm topping up my paracetamol stocks whenever I can.

How interesting is that? So we get jabbed up for COVID-19, and we have lost the mojo to deal with the annual round of flu! What a mess!

Quick addition - you can register for early access to the flu jab with Lloyds pharmacy: Flu jab
As I've recently moved and had to change doctors, this year's flu jab would be unknown territory with the surgery, but I know Lloyds get the jabs in early.

Thanks for that. I don’t worry about myself, but I do get concerned for my wife.
