Not a bad idea. But I hate going up there because of all the fibreglass, plus I don't feel very good on ladders these days. I could maybe do the outside.
One room is not under the attic, has it's own roof, and isn't insulated. I'll turn the rad low and keep the door shut. It's never used these days.
I re-did my bedroom window recently, draught excluders.
Not had the heating on yet, apart from 20 minutes to test it.

Beat the dark and reroofed the allotment shed the wind had seen off the old felt it had gone brittle and was flapping a bit

had the old boy who over looks us telling me I was doing it wrong obviously being helpful no malice or anything ..

(flat roof style shed so no hip/ ridge )

. "you've put the top on first so your overlap will be wrong way... "

think I blew his mind when he saw how I did it

It's about 2500mm deep is the roof the felt is 1000mm wide
So there's a 500mm to loose / lap

Measure twice cut once and all that jazz ;)

Tacked the top piece in place along the top and half way down each side

Fully fixed the bottom along the gutter line evenly then slid the middle piece into place tucked it under the upper sheet over the bottom then fixed into place no trimming required bar cutting to width like the other pieces .

Then clout nailed and fixed laths and barge boards to fully secure the felt

Work smart not harder :lol

He did give me the nod of respect when I shouted for him to watch this bit as I put the last piece on the roof as i climbed up
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

The outside would work. And it's possible to add layers. I have already noted the difference. You could put a fabric draft excluder on the outside of the door if heat is lost through the non-insulated room. Our kitchen extension is pants, I'm actually going to add some insulation foil to the ceiling. Might look a bit :tinfoil but it will help keep the warm in!

Yeah, I'm going to look at upping my draught exclusion, including internal doors. I would probably start with that uninsulated room, as it is upstairs obviously, and is a heat drain. I might also do the two doors on the back living room (front room is a lodger's) where the thermostat is, to stop cold air triggering the heating. Ironically I've turned the radiator UP in that room. The logic is that it heats up quickly, then the thermostat turns the heating off. It's not come on yet. I think the temp has to get to half a degree below what it's set to to trigger it (it only reads in half degree increments).

I'm keeping a spreadsheet of outside temp, living room temp, my room temp, kWh gas used, average daily use last year (target) etc.

This coming week is about getting fitter for me. I have had a dose of COVID on top of everything else this Summer! No sense of taste or smell for that time, and beyond for the time being. That messes with the head for sure. So much so, I have not eaten properly for a week , and lost weight. I am now banging the spiciest grub down me ( I can sense the ‘heat’) and quite quickly getting energy back.

For the first time ever , I am now keeping and taking vitamin tablets and being ABSOLUTELY careful with dietary intake. Also , we will now keep ‘ready’ meals in the freezer for when we are not too clever. Something we have never done.

Apparently, 1:50 adults is getting COVID right now, in particular over 50’s +. So all of you , whatever age, please take care.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

As some on here know, I work at a university, and covid is going round campus like wildfire. I suspect it's this year's Fresher's Flu. I am so grateful to have had my covid and flu jabs a couple of weeks ago. Teaching colleagues are dropping like flies for the umpteenth time, and in some cases, they are iller than the earlier times they caught covid :(

I hope you get fighting fit again soon jansman! Stay well everyone!

In terms of actual preps, I've picked up two hot water bottles, a big fleecy blanket, and some cosy pyjamas in this week's Lidl offers. Plus even more batteries.

My wife is buying fleecy blankets and fleeces and suchlike for our girls for Christmas. Anything to preserve warmth. I suggested hot water bottles too.

Got both kids an electric blanket not so much for emergency use but don't need the house heated to high level and they can snuggle into a warm bed ... But if the boiler fails it takes the chill off
