i never start until around march tbhjennyjj01 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 9:46 pmWell, the darned snow is keeping me off the plot. 10 of the walking onions are about 3" tall already. If the weather warms a touch, I think I'll let them play outside.jennyjj01 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 4:56 pm You do realise these poor bu66ers will be getting planted out ruthlessly when they reach three inches unless somebody stops me.
The garlic that I planted out seems to be doing fine. Growth has maybe slowed, but no sign of rotting or dying.
I feel the season is on the starting blocks.
I'm starting to itch and twitch now. Can I sow some seeds yet? PLEASE?
Well. I did sow some onions indoors. What can be next? Peppers? Leeks? Spring onions? Don't want to miss the moment.

I'll have starved to death by then.
I Know. I KNOW. Got to work to nature's timetable. Last year I jumped the gun, too.
I THINK I was right to sow my onions now and I just don't want to miss any deadlines.
Tell ya what: I'll sprout some mung beans. That should satisfy my urge to grow and harvest food ASAP.

I’ve been referred to the hypertension clinic.

Not directly a prep, but I've been cleaning up after the indoors-only cat has gone home - which means, lots of flecks from the litter tray have been scattered over every surface a cat can walk on yuck. And my neighbour has been active with his chainsaw, so I have two lovely washing up bowls of sawdust to sprinkle on my soil - improver, organic addition.

Last time they sent an overly aftershaved teenager in a shiny suit from the letting agent, but this time it's someone from an itinerary company which sounds awfully official.
Plus we've had news that compulsory redundancies are on the cards at work so I'm updating my CV and trying to work out what job search websites are good nowadays.

LinkedIn is indeed still a thing. It's on the list.
Morale at work is at an all time low. If voluntary severance is good enough, I may consider taking it.

Peppers and leeks to go into pods and trays tomorrow. I've never managed to grow a pepper long enough to see it bear fruit.steptoe wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 2:50 pmJen peppers and leeks get them in they are so blooming slow or you will struggle to get any peppers .

I started my leeks late last year. Some are still in the ground I also have some carrots still apparently alive in buckets. No idea what state they are in, under the soil.
I got another 2 1/2 hours in at the plot today. It's covered in snow, but that didn't stop me . I tugged and scraped and raked up a good two full builders bags of loose grassy weeds and the compost heap is now taller than me ... I'm just tackling a few random areas as the mood takes me, but it's starting to look like I'm making progress. An area of about 15 sq metres has been roughly raked over once, is broadly level and is now covered with a tarp. It's not cleared by any measure. I think I'll spend the next few sessions repeatedly revisiting that area, rather than starting any other bits.
Of the dried out stick-like weeds, I pulled a lot out completely with just a gentle tug. I figure that if i can do that, they are not raspberries or anything I want.
My plot seems a metre wider than many of the others. Yayyy.

Bloods on Monday, first appointment a week on Tuesday (it’s only on Tuesdays and it was too near for this Tuesday coming). A minor miracle I got the appointment but absolutely fine once in the practice system.
On a side note, I was in A&E before Christmas in a professional matter. It was very busy with genuine folk but equally there were folk in there I came close to saying something too. One man was in there with tonsillitis, he had to be seen but I was thinking ‘why didn’t you go to a bloody chemist first instead of tying up valuable resources?’.
A fair few drunks also treating it like a nightclub extension. I had to bite my tongue as I was there with work but sweet bejesus, I never realised how many entitled idiots we have. They know their rights but have no idea about responsibilities.
