Regarding camp fires
There are different terms used such as fire resistant, fire retardant etc. Modern fire fighters wear jackets and trousers made from synthetic materials - mainly aramids such as Nomex and Kevlar or polybenzimidazole (PBI). Most racing drivers wear suits made from Nomex, a fibre related to nylon. Nomex is fire retardant. Other suits consist of cotton treated with Proban, a chemical manufactured by Rhodia, or other substances.

Something I read but didn't check as I didn't think it was very practical. It did seem odd as they are plastic. Hence I said "might" work.
Waxed jackets.
Again, something I read but haven't checked was that some wax used is flammable.
Another factor is layers, eg cotton or wool could work as an outer later or underwear.

Found a lightweight Nomex overall on ebay for £26 so ordered one. 93% Nomex with 5% kevlar and 2% antistatic fibre I think, aka NomexIII
