I had to upload a copy of my passport to another government department recently, and they refused to accept it between the logos and the security devices loaded onto the pic, you can't see me at all I sorted it, of course, though I can't even remember how, but my gast was flabbered
Ooh, preps: I was in London yesterday, at Paul McCartney's exhibition and I took a big risk on preps - only took a shirt with me to cover up, if my train had broken down I'd have been snookered. Plus my credit card has accidentally been through the washing machine twice, and the first ticket machine at my home station *really* didn't like it (second one accepted it, grudgingly ) And I wore sandals, good walking sandals, because shoes are painfully hot in those exhibition environments - but at least I packed a pair of socks I could use if I had to
What Preps are you doing this week? Part 10

Ooh I really fancy that exhibition too. Haven't got any trips to the Smoke planned ATM though.Arzosah wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 9:27 am I had to upload a copy of my passport to another government department recently, and they refused to accept it between the logos and the security devices loaded onto the pic, you can't see me at all I sorted it, of course, though I can't even remember how, but my gast was flabbered

Paid voluntary national insurance contributions today. What a faff to get to this point but now I should get a full state pension when the time comes. Worked out that I only need to claim my pension for 3 years to make the payment worthwhile. I just hope I take after my mum in the longevity stakes as she is in her 90s.

Honestly, you wouldn't regret it, it was great. My train journey only takes 45 minutes if all's going well, so it's doable for me in a day. We had a bit more energy once we'd been, and went to see the Tudor Gallery - its got to be 30 years since I went in person. All the paintings are weirdly bright, as well as very highly lit, but they're lovely still.itsybitsy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 11:46 amOoh I really fancy that exhibition too. If you do it, let me know - it would be brilliant to meet up!
We saw 3 Chinook helicopters, unusual for London - wondered if it was soldiers going back to base after acting as security around Joe Biden, he was well off to Lithuania by then.

Sorted some first aid/meds expiry dates. I tend to give dressings with no expiry about 5 years to be on the safe side. Got a few in my Amazon basket for next month. Packed away some Dioralyte and Seokot that got delivered. Some of the Dioralyte is for my BOB.
Used one of my BOB mini-head torch batteries for the kitchen scales. These are 10 year coin types. I weigh everything, everything I eat and every item in my BOB.

I actually just did the opposite, cancelled my DD. The final year was costing me £87 a month, and only makes £2 a week difference. I'm already on 99%. And I am a bit skint.Ara wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 1:39 pm Paid voluntary national insurance contributions today. With regards to wound dressings it can useful to keep hold of out of date dressings. As long as the dressing in contact with the wound is in date the out of date dressings can be applied over the top of the first dressing to absorb blood when the first dressing is saturated. Obviously this is not best practice and would never be done in my professional life but if resources are low then its an option.

What's the difference between an out of date wound dressing and a teatowel/tshirt?
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

At work we keep the FAK up to date, but store the just expired stuff on site but separately..... If somebody's hosing its better to use OOD dressings then wiping rags.Nurseandy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 3:49 pm With regards to wound dressings it can useful to keep hold of out of date dressings. I'd use the Factory kit, then the Van kit, then my personal kit before getting into the expired stuff... But, backups to backups is what we do here
My reasoning (with agreement of our book-keeper who is a retired A&E nurse) is that even an OOD dressing is cleaner then any improvised option. What's the difference between an out of date wound dressing and a teatowel/tshirt?

Expiry dates is a bit of a drag to keep track of. I have various spread sheets. The trouble with first aid kits is finding replacements. You can't just buy two 2" dressings, you have to buy 5 or 10. Managed to find some good prices in the end. Five 4" dressings for £2.18. Only wanted three but the others can go in my home first aid kit.
You can buy complete replacement kits for some ready make kits, but weirdly these contain things like scissors, which obviously never expire. Such a waste.
I've put all my Imodium, Dioralyte, Senna and Clinel wipes onto a list rather than spread sheet. When things are approaching expiry I move the item sideways a bit so it's easy to see. Listed under location and colour coded by product.
I just use the basic Apple apps - Notes and Numbers (spreadsheet)
