Guys (and girls),
To up my knowledge of all things Agriculture, I was thinking of taking a few courses (possibly distance learning) and found the following:

Would it be worth doing? Or just would research off my own back be more worthwhile?
Online courses
Re: Online courses
I would say that it varies depending on the subject you are studying. Other than OU courses (which are excellent) my only other Distance Learning Course was a PC Repair and Maintainance Course back in the late 90's. I was fairly good on the subject beforehand and found the course quite easy.
When I then started work at Novatech and part of my job involved repairing notebooks and pc's I realised how little I actually knew, like all the little tricks and time saving things, and even some very basic stuff. In effect my previous course had given me the basics so I could understand what was going on but it didn't make me a good PC repairer. I imagine any course that has a practical application would be similar unless you are working in that environment and were using the course along side it..

I personally prefer hands-on experiences. When I started to look at my veg patch I went on a days organic gardening course run by someone near Newbury. Lots of info, organic lunch and planted some salad seeds.
If you buy a smallholding magazine or the such like there are loads of courses advertised at the back, that cover animal husbandry and veg growing.
