Bearing in mind food is one of the main preps, how much food do you actually have stored ? Not counting your weekly shop stuff, just the extra that you have stored.
I know most survival and prepping sites, and the LDS mention 12 months worth of food should be your target but I am nowhere near that, what about every one else ?
If you haven't done so already it is worth sitting down and actually working out the number of meals and / or calories you have as when I did so a few months back I realised I had a lot less than I thought. One thing I have found is a years worth of tinned food for just one person is a hell of a lot of tins (1000 ish) so big bags of rice, pasta, beans etc seem the way to go unless you have plenty of space and money
I currently only have about 6 - 8 weeks worth of food (for 2 people) depending on portion size
Be honest
How much food do you store
Re: How much food do you store
I've got a LOT, but it's a bit 'messy' in the sense that, for example, I've got around four months worth of pasta, six months worth of rice, but nowhere near enough sauces, etc to go with said pasta/rice. I don't keep my preps in a separate place to my normal pantry stuff, so when I buy extra it just all goes into the same 'pot' as it were.
I've been a bit lax over the past couple of months due to a combination of complete 'prepper fatigue', and the fact that I've had other priorities to think about than buying preps or even thinking about it, really. However, I do need to crank it up again...winter is looming.
My main problem is not having enough recipes to mix it up to the extent where I wouldn't be bored senseless in a prolonged SHTF situation where food wasn't readily available. So I'd probably end up having to force myself to eat, long before I ran out of what I've got!

I think I need to go to Makro and stock up, Rice is the easiest and cheapest (and I have 1 x 20kg bag) so a couple more bags would sort things.......but Rice ....I get bored of it in a week let alone months.
Maybe some Grain, I could happily live on dry bread

Perhaps. But your body wouldn't be very happy!Carrot Cruncher wrote: Maybe some Grain, I could happily live on dry bread

I worked out I had about 2 months (possibly a little more if we ate smaller portions!) worth. Kids would be happy having the same most days so thats OK. Can supplement with whatever is in the garden.
However, I have been 'eating' into the preps (so to speak) due to no work so its slowly going down. Will need to do a big stock up once I've got some money coming in.
Not nearly as much as I would like. I do keep it seperate from the main food storage but rotate each month after shopping, so it eventually ends up in the kitchen cupboards.

Re: How much food do you store
got about 150 days, eating frugally and supplementing with my air gun. Only if i am on my own though. If my 3 offspring appear, portions would be meaner and i would hope to last for 2 months or a little longer.
I may have difficulty convincing the offspring to eat small portions but it would need to be done.
Water would be the problem. My barrels have not filled up all summer but we have rivers and streams in the area, though some streams have dried up.

Re: How much food do you store
Two weeks worth at the moment, nowhere near that for water but working on it.
I am actually storing for 2. My Dad lives close by and shops week to week

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: How much food do you store
At this early stage in our prepping we have set a target to store enough for 90 days and soon will have that (for wife and I).. We'll re-think this when we achive said goal,We started off making lists etc for a year but it just seemed so daunting!
- so broke it down into "manageable chunks" in the hope that we'll be able to step up the variety, when we start buying the 2nd 90 days prep's we'll try for different tastes and styles..even thought about each 90 day chunk themed from a different part of the world/culture?
Luckily for me the wife is blessed with great cooking skills
However when i comes to water I'm slacking tbh..just can't seem to find the right storage container for the space we've put aside..really should get that sorted

I've let things go a bit as well, mainly through lack of money. Can't afford to eat day to day and stash as well. At least water isnt a problem here
Got a lot of oatmeal, porridge oats, bread flour, soup mix, lentils, tea and powdered milk.
Got a doz each of jam, sardines, salt, vinegar.
Got a freezer half full of meat but might get powercuts in winter so not depending on it.
And apart from that just odds and sods of tins...
