Pays to have all spares charged ready...

Also pulled any key kit together which I run on rechargeable cells and giving them a top up before the weather gets bad
Same as you Andy, we’re charging everything atm incase of any blackouts.

Not just AA and AAA, NiMH and Lithium, also 12V leisure and any power tools incase of any
emergency repairs, all by solar power.

My 4 leisure batteries are all showing full the 4th is about 95% but that's on the crappy windmill give it an hour of stormy winds it'll be topped up ;) I only got it as my son was windmill mad when he was a toddler as it goes "round and round" he spent hours watching it

Oh and the ecoflow power station jobbie

Moved some cheese powder into my Amazon basket for end of the month. It's not something I'd normally buy, but I need some protein for my food store, apart from tuna, and I reckon it could go into pasta sauce, or make mac and cheese.

Bought some Al'Fez dehydrated falafel mix from Sainsburys, again for long term protein storage. I'll make it up and try it. I got some ready made ones last week for the first time and they were very nice (Cauldron brand). If it's nice, I'll gradually build a stock up.

It is hard to find good storage high protein sources outside of tinned fish/meat or the body builders powers.

Complete grain proteins buckwheat and quinoa both have around 4.5% protein - cooked
Beans are more in the 8-12% range once cooked
TVP and cheddar both come in around 25% once cooked, simiar to canned Tuna
Lean chicken breast gets to 30%

So you you could eat arger amounts of lower grade protein to get to the amount you need. The WHO daily protein recommendation is in the region of 0.5g per kilo of bodyweight or 40g for someone weighing 80kg /12.5 stone
Most in the west eat a lot more. Body builder and heavy athletes may need to double this but for survival the lower figure should work.

Thanks. The only meat I eat is fish. Also I have to avoid too many oxalates, which rules out most nuts and beans. Butter beans are ok, I do have some tins of those. Soya is very high in oxalates. Chickpeas are ok. Tahini is ok in very small quantities, ditto most spices. I've not calculated the oxalates in falafels, hopefully not too many. Dairy is ok. I should get some Nido come to think of it. I did used to have some dried egg powder but it seems a bit hard to get these days. There are people selling it but some of it looks a bit iffy. They might be buying decent stuff in bulk and repackaging it, but it could be anything. This looks ok but it's not cheap. It's slightly cheaper on their own website. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275939231824
It's £25.19 with postage, works out about 30p per egg I think. You get about 80 eggs in a kilo. https://specialingredients.co.uk/produc ... owder-1-kg

I used to stock the Hoosier Farm dried egg until we discovered we are all hen egg intolerant. We were using it as a successful ingredient for a pancake mix and a sponge cake mix. WW2 style things like scrambled eggs are not successful.
Pancake mix is easy - equal quantities by volume of flour, dried milk and dried egg but you can play with the egg and milk quantities a long way before pancakes stop working. I was trying to use up some older egg and milk so was generous with them. The kids would not mix this themselves but they were more than happy to cook from a tub of pancake mix so it didn't last long.

12v under cabinet lighting and a 12v cigarette lighter attachment as in this clip:

@ 7.25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v39ipOQXBcI

I'll run them as emergency lighting as and when.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

I bought some powdered blue cheese a while back and in a mad moment I just sprinkled a spoonful on buttered (well, low fat spreaded) toast..... Wow!!
Mind you I love blue cheese in all its types

Starting the winter stockpile, mainly to save us from having to trek out in bad weather. In shock at the prices of some things, inc candles
