I'll get a chance to do some shopping the week after next, for some long-term food items and non-food items.
Started mine today! Enough batteries,4stroke oil for the generator, new bulbs and spares for the approach lights.
Next week it's tinned fruit and stew.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Aldi is great for tinned/tetra packed stuff. I bought a full slab of tomato passata to make pasta sauces with, it cost me about £3.50. Same again for a slab of tins of grapefruit chunks.
We use Aldi and Lidl for many things but may I add a slight word of caution.
Before you buy large amounts for the first time, buy one item of what you are interested in and try it. Some items we like, I prefer Lidl beans to Heinz for example, but others can be foreign to UK tastes and unpalatable.
You really don't want to have a couple of dozen tins of something that, to you, tastes awful. That will make a dent in your budget if you don't eat it but give it away (don't ask).
The small stock of tins that I *do* have in my cupboard at home for last-minute emergencies, is mostly made up of M&S tinned meats. Pricey I know, but very nice stuff!
When I start my proper winter list in a week or so time, I'll probably shop cheaper...
Just ordered a "Washer Set", 4 spare Mantles, and a Pre-Heating torch for the Tilley Lamp I picked up cheap (£8 ) off fleabay. A bit of elbow grease and it looks as good as new, very pleased with it.
I'll post a before and after pic when the washer set arrives and it is reassembled
