Hi and welcome from the NorthWest.

Where in the world are you? What's different about prepping for you? E.g. weapons law? risk of war? Urban/rural? Different retail availability?
We don't discuss weapons here, so just a general answer, I suppose.
Graceful Degradation! Prepping's objective summed up in two words. Turning Disaster into Mild Inconvenience by the power of fore-thought

Not Feeling Optimistic. Let me be wrong

Apologies, I wrote a reply, previewed it, went to post it, was timed out? and lost it!

Will attempt again in the coming days, a bit simple and no expert on laptops etc. do not even have a mobile phone so bear with me.

I am located in Bulgaria.

Prepping for us? We survive on the fruit and veg we grow and the animals we rear coupled with foraging and when the opportunity is presented hunting. Consequently we have to plan for the many permutations connected with this lifestyle. Our "Derelict Dump" as we affectionately call our home was (and still is being) renovated by us but is basic and designed to allow us to live completely "Off Grid", we have just done this over a two week period something we do prior to every winter. This allows us to pick up on and sort out any issues before the serious cold temperatures set in.

We are in an extremely rural setting, our village is classed as "dying" and has at a guess less than 50 surviving residents.

Regarding Firearms, Bulgarian citizens can hold firearms but residents like us cannot. However there are plenty of ranges to use and try out what is new on the market and to keep our proficiency up in this area. We also keep our eye in due to our friends being in the hunting fraternity. Air weapons mainly have a minimum power of 25 joules for which you would need a FAC in the UK (your limit is 12 joules if I recall correctly). Stringed weapons are also freely available. We use both long bows and take down recurve bows, crossbow and pistol bows not forgetting slingshots, I always keep one on me just to practice with of course!

Personal defence items, sprays, batons, tazers, stun guns etc. are also widely available. We just order what we require via the internet and it is delivered the next day.

Not sure what you mean by "retail availability". If referring to normal commodity shopping you can get what you need from shops, markets and supermarkets the same goes with any electronic items you may want.

I may be wrong but I think people who "prep" have a similar mindset wherever they are located.

Personally, I think people have been conditioned to believe that Governments have plans in place to help and deal with any emergency that arrives when the reality is they will hang you out to dry to look after themselves, when not if the SHTF you are on your own, so it is best to try to be armed with the basic knowledge and items for survival that may/could assist you, your family and your "Crew/Group"  in situations that will arise in the future.

I hope that all makes sense.

Hi Adjee,

Welcome to the forum. In the UK, most of us prepare for disasters or short to medium term shortages of food, energy, water. It sounds as if you're a lot better off in Bulgaria than we in the UK.
