Well I think preppers are intelligent people who are ahead of the game...and as such should be left to do their own thing in their own way. There is no right or wrong - there is just doing our best and keeping eyes open. You get sites giving you advice for rural prepping and also for urban, so nobody is left without help, there's something for everybody.
I live really rural bu thats because I'm an anti-social old sow. Nothing to do with TSHTF

Re: Run to the hills?
again i see your point CC, but this isnt Russia or Africa, and to be fair if it was State sponsored violence then we'll all be dead and end of subject. i think i read somewhere(i forget where) that with the population of London at 8 million or so, TPTB would have their hands full keeping the population fed and watered, never mind the rest of the country. so the rest of us would have to look after ourselves.
Re: Run to the hills?
I know it isn't Russia or Africa now ......but we are talking about after tshtf aren't we ? Why would we be any different from the places where ts has already htf ?
In what way do you think things will be different between here and somewhere like the DRC after the shtf ? ...apart from the weather
And the point about the Ukraine was that rural communities were hit hardest by the famine as what crops they grew were taken off them.
Anyway, we better agree to disagree before we get told off again

Since neither of youz are psychic and can't know for sure what will happen... then I'm not listening.
Re: Run to the hills?
If the SHTF, and the perceived long term effect of this is that those remaining in the cities become refugees that flee to the country, would that not mean that, apart from the escalation of disease, rats and urban gangs, would it not be a little more survivable?
Dont get me wrong, I live in a rural area and if I didnt, I would hopefully be able to make a beeline for a rural BOL. But, by being a city dweller AND a prepper, I would be aware of the dangers in an urban environment, plan & prep for them and know where the best places are for scavenging and 'looting' post SHTF. If an urban area is all I know, surely it makes sense that this is where my knowledge is; I know how to get around, I know where to find supplies that may not have been looted or locked up.
As refugees leave, would that not ease up on the amount of people around that would cause me danger? I know that as time goes by after an event, I would be looking at cities and towns as places I would definitely be looking at for scavenging and salvaging but only as part of an organised group.
I think we need to be aware of prepping and surviving in both locations; there will always be that blurred distinction between rural and urban areas, suburbia, that would contain a lot of items that would enhance survivability. Being open minded enough to prep for both eventualities can only be a positive and 'double up' on surviving.

Yes, exactly!janso wrote: Maybe this is where the idea of forming a network comes into its own.... safe locations we can bug out to, have a cuppa, and then as group form a plan that offers mutual support and safety

Fort Up. Do it now, start to make those small changes whilst you can. Bugging Out in the UK is chancy to say the least. Wherever you go you'll be a damned refugee. Friendly relatives and relative friends will probably not be happy when your smiling face turns up at the door, especially if it makes their survival harder. Even your well prepared BOL will probably have someone faster in it before you get there.
As for Town & City Dwellers can I recommend
Ragnar's Urban Survival: A Hard Times Guide to Staying Alive in the City £10 on Play. Really good reading and food for thought.

First rule of prepping: DONT become a refugee, if you havent got a BOL set up already, you are probably better of staying where you are, at least you'll have 4 walls and a roof! going "wild in the woods" is ok for the summer but come the winter you'll freeze to death( especially the more north you go).
