Electric and structural things I can deal with. Plumbing - never touched it so have none of the kit. At the moment - lesson learned..

Most plumbers scoff at speed fit but in a bind a quick semi permanent fix... most modern houses are done with it now ...

Why i stock some 15mm and 22mm speed fit isolators and rotary pipe cutters shtf..

Cut pipe and bang a isolator on then shut the valve.. Big escape of water for a few seconds then capped securely till a man can turn up

I have these cutters in 15 and 22 mm

Not the best but for occasional use I've no complaints
A length of 15mm and 22mm per plus end inserts and a few in line / bends connectors and threaded adaptors to get stuff working in a problem. And a few spare flexi tap fittings

Turn on all cold taps and flush toilets to reduce pressure and water flows away safely without any mess.

Made a good start winterising the car

Got most the underside treated with under body and the doors / boot lid half the underside cavities done with cavity wax ...

Tomorrow's task lhs sill the front sub frame and drop the spare wheel and finish the back end....

Then a good wash next week once the under seal has fully cured and a ceramic "wax" on the body work and levels checked and coolant protection tested

2 new tyres ordered for the end of the month then the car will be winter ready bar chucking winter kit in when the weather starts to bite

Then the wife's car to sort

Our car has not long had its mot and annual service so not much to do, there is a GHB in
there including water, food and a stove then just waterproofs and sleeping bags needed.

4° here in south Manchester earlier this morning. Don't think the forecast was anywhere near that last time I looked. I had been expecting about 11°. Minimum temp can change a lot in a couple of days, from the forecast to actual. This will be due to clear skies, wind direction, or a cold front.

Ran the heat a bit yesterday to lower the humidity (had the windows open as well, but not at the same time), and got radiator hammer in the bathroom after a while. Tweaked the TRV to stop that. It's ironic really, and counter-intuitive, but when it's cold outside, and the weather apps say humidity (they always quote relative humidity) is very high, say 98%, the absolute humidity will actually be a lot lower than it is inside your house, so you should open the windows to lower the humidity inside. Do this to prevent mould.

You can calculate the AH here. https://planetcalc.com/2167/#google_vignette

Understanding this is actually simple. Cold air can't hold much moisture. Hot air can hold a lot.

We've had a few fires already , not really because it's been really cold but more that I feel it helps to put some heat into the structure before the weather gets worse.
My wood stores are largely full and the last load of wood I brought home is just sitting in a pile awaiting chopping up and somewhere to live.

I just realised, things like cream crackers are a good prep food. Fairly high calories, low bulk, fairly long term storage. You can even eat them without marge or butter, although I prefer them with. They are also light in weight, if you need to bug out. You can tape the packet back closed pretty well.

Mr McPrepper is never happier than when the wood store is full! I agree with the cream cracker theory too - we store and use them.
I’ve been continuing my fitness campaign, ordering a delivery of oil before the prices go up, buying a new car battery ready for winter (mine’s been getting a bit ropey recently and not holding a re-charge) and deep cleaning the chicken run (they’re all still laying really well so the rewards are good). Happy prepping everyone :)

Finished my car and the wife's underside.. both cavity waxed and undersealed

Underside got a good visual inspection at the same time...

Yesterday I bought a set of steel car ramps that made life nice and easy her little fiat just went up without hitting the front bumper on the ramps ....

Least it was faster to do been smaller than mine
