I just built net tunnels over the veg plots and it did a real good job of keeping the cats, dogs and almost any other critter off the beds and stopped them digging up the new seeds.
I used 20mm plastic conduit bent over to form an arch, times by four and three side runners to hold it all together,
then covered with chicken wire and a removable net door at each end for weed control with a hoe.
Still get plenty of air, sun and of course rain, a poly cover turns it into a mini greenhouse, and all for under £15 per 5ft X 10ft patch.
And of course it is re-usable year after year.
A picture of the frame with a poly cover on it.

Hi Mr The-gnole,
A most impressive set up but the voices still say 'Kill, Kill'
Joking aside, I'm going to copy some of your ideas.
Thanks
Stephen

My method
I have worked out which cat belongs to which house..... a trowel and a flick of the wrist and calling card returned.
Not 100% sure each cat owner gets their cat's deposits back but not my concern

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

This may be useful as a deterent you use a hallf sized 12g blank shell which you can buy without needing a lisence and is set to go off using a trip wire. This is legal as it only using blank shells.

I don't think they would be that useful as a cat deterent in a built up residential area though, cat comes in, it goes "BANG" cat runs away when the armed response cars come screaming down the road when someone reports gunfire down the street.axelt123 wrote:This may be useful as a deterent you use a hallf sized 12g blank shell which you can buy without needing a lisence and is set to go off using a trip wire. Might be good for getting to know the neighbours though
Re: I love animals but .......................
that depends on what sort of area it is, some places they might not even notice.the-gnole wrote:

Is that legal? Or ethical? If it were my cat that got electrocuted, I'd have the police and the RSPCA round to see the perpetrator. Pronto.
Re: I love animals but .......................
Can I jump in here ? As the originator of this thread, I do feel slightly responsible.
I wish to state that :-
I have no intention of plinking the little darlings with my air rifles.
I have every intention of using a super soaker water pistol on them.
I will not make a home made taser to deter them - I was joking!
Electric fences, Bird scarers - Oy Vey, three camels and your eldest daughter effendi - Not my bag.

Legal as it is use widly for animal control all over the country and it wouldnt kill the cat just a painful shock from the battery you can by elec dog collers still ect. we use elec fencing at work all of the time to keep foxes out and the pigs in
