Some years ago a work colleague of mine said her son had ambled in after pub closing, with a chinese takeaway of chicken fried rice. He had started in on it and she was watching and said 'hang on a min - pass me some of the chicken- it looks odd.....' The lad said it was fine but she examined it and muttered a bit about 'I've cooked enough chickens to know what it looks like, and this looks odd....' sort of thing (she said it had 'fibres').
She saved it and sent it off to wherever? I can't remember - but she got a letter back which she showed me and it said the sample of food they had received was domestic rat.

Conclusion - it looks /tastes something like chicken especially if you're young and full of alcohol....

My son used to go shooting with a local man for rabbits, they hung them in his garage until they got to 3 doz then sold them to the local Chinese takeaway. This is true.

Survival techniques tought by the Army say that rats are indeed edible if you killed it your self (ie don't eat road kill etc), but entrails are a big no, as is the liver which is toxic to humans. Incidentally, not that you're likely to bump into one, but the liver from Polar bears is also toxic to humans.

Any one ever eaten earth worms? I have and they are not pleasant but lets face it, if you were hungry enough you'd eat any thing.

Has any one ever been hungry enough for long enough to consider eating something weird. I don't mean for a day or two, or even a week. I mean 1000 calories a day for two months, I have and you'd be suprised what goes through your mind and what you'd be prepared to eat and the arguments it can cause. Satisfying hunger really is a primal erge, it takes over.

Edit.. Typo's

I could, but then I'd have to kill you.

Seriously though, lack of food over a long period can change people. A perfectly rational everyday sort of person can be driven litterally mad with hunger. I've seen men that have been friends and comrades for years almost come to blows because of a miss sized (or perceived miss sized) portion of the most basic of foods. Under normal circumstances these same men would walk through fire and cut off their hands for each other.

nothing wrong with roadkill(i dont think there would be much left of a road kill rat) we have had some good meals off roadkill, mainly pheasant and rabbit, just make sure its well cooked.
