OK, I am now on my second batch of antibiotics for a chest infection that has not cleared up. Had this now for 3 weeks, with a terrible cough and overnight a raging temperature.
I had a bad chest infection this time last year and the doc is now saying I will be susceptible to them. So if antibiotics were not available what could I do to firstly, prevent it happening and secondly to help me get through it?
Thanks.
Alternative to antibiotics
Re: Alternative to antibiotics
I am not a doctor I cant be considered to be a trustworthy source, BUT, I have reason to believe that diet, nutrition and exercise are important here.
Zinc citrate 15 - 30 Mg per NIGHT are said to boost the immunity.
3000 Mg of Ascorbic Acid vitamin C is supposed to be (IF you are not allergic to it) the minimum daily amount (spread out through the day) needed to maintain basic health and more in the case of a bad cold.
B vitamins gives the body the strength to fight disease and to heal from wounds.
Magnesium Citrate helps the body release energy and that's also good for the brain.
Meadowsweet / aspirin to help lower the temperature
Lemon balm infusions to help sweat out the fever at night.
Black Pepper essential oil evaporated to kill airborne germs (to a small degree) and to bring blood to the surface allowing you to feel warmer and more cosy.
Keep all surfaces clean and have plenty of sanitizer spray on hand to kill germs.
Thoroughly wash all hankies or boil them to kill germs to stop yourself from reinfecting your body.
Keep clothes and the house as clean as you can within reason.
Take rest, good long healing rest.

Re: Alternative to antibiotics
Second the vit C suggestion and mind you can take a lot more than the RDA. Vit D3, I found that made a huge diff to me, I take high dose caps from Amazon. Also honey & cinnamon but you have to take it regularly, like on toast every day for breakfast or supper or somthing like that.

Re: Alternative to antibiotics
Colloidal silver will sterilise anything - the danger there is that it will kill off the friendly bugs that we need, as well as the baddies. So I think its better used for sterlisation of wound dressings etc, external or topical.

Personally I have found very little positive on colloidal silver, I came across it several years ago so did what research I could at the time.
Plenty of sites to read about it.

Hopefully random enough not to make people think it is a loaded answer

Re: Alternative to antibiotics
Very interesting, thanks to both of you. The information id read had certainly suggested it could replace antibiotics and due to my not being too interested didn't enquire further. Interesting to read the other side of the story.
I wonder whether the effort to make it is worth it as a sterilising solution. I'd of thought boiling was effective enough ?
Think I'm gonna be using the UK sceptics site in the future gnole, cracking reading so far, cheers

Re: Alternative to antibiotics
Personally, I would try and get a view on different sides. Approach your GP or nurse and ask them what alternatives there are, what lifestyle changes could be made etc. Long term antibiotic use is generally considered bad and there will be other things you can do to assist your ability to deal with flare ups. I would also find out what alternative antibiotics are useful in treating your condition, knowing this in a SHTF situation could mean the ability to keep going on supplies found when resource gathering.

Re: Alternative to antibiotics
I dont think colloidal silver is good internally, but I use it to sterilise things .And you can make it yourself, which is the whole idea eh
