I think it depends on the situation, if the country is un liveable, then moving is an obvious choice, for everything else I am bugging in unless the local situation necessitates a move. Yes security is an issue, but as the guy who survived the Balkans war has stated, even when things are really bad, there is a will to survive through it if you know what to do.
Over 3 months, without external support, the average sheeple will soon begin to die off or congregate in ways which promote shorter lifespans. Security will still be an issue and in an ideal environment, us preppers will be in a position to move to better areas for defence and sustainability. Within the first 6 months, I would be waiting, keeping as low profile as possible until it makes better sense to move to a more suitable location.

Re: economic collapse // SHTF
Population density isn't much lower for our immediate neighbours so you'd be facing similar levels of competition for the available resources. Plus you need to get there, if you can sail and navigate its do able or you could walk the 24 miles of the tunbel. Maybe drive the service tunnel if you've got a vehicle and fuel.
It's worth considering but for me it would be something for a year or so after teotwawki and mainly for the climate and its longer growing season. Short term I'll be bugging in.

Re: economic collapse // SHTF
Just had a quick wander round property
IF it did go "pete tong"
i would get a little bit extreme
my ideas would be so far
firepit in garden for outdoor cooking
remove electric cooker and in its space place a solid fuel bbq type affair for indoor cooking
possibly kick kids out of downstairs bedroom and use it for poultry.
remember these are ideas for if power went and collapse of law n order.

Re: economic collapse // SHTF
BEFORE my three weeks supplies run out, get active making sure that those supplies DONT run out.
Also do as much a I can to reduce the need to dip into those three weeks supplies (such as going out and hunting for any small game including RAT. Covering the house with traps (rat. mouse, pigeon) to catch every concealable type of bird and animal that strays would be brilliant.)

i may knock the outdoor pit idea on the head
if people are going without do i really want to be cooking outdoors it may be too tempting for them?

Re: economic collapse // SHTF
Agree there moocher, that's why I am interested in Nicks alcohol idea. The Gel alcohol can be burnt inside with little to no ventilation required thus being a very good way to cook and heat indoors without telltale signs of activity or preparedness.
Re: economic collapse // SHTF
An interesting book that may be of use in giving projected casualty figures, etc is called "Warplan UK" it came out years ago, but had graphics and maps, etc. It was based on a Soviet Missile strike type war and the civil unrest that would follow, but adjusting the figures accordingly for the years since publication could give a rough approximation.

Hi
Well thinking about it, if the S*** really hit the fan
And if staying put, is on the cards, then a scorched earth policy maybe a good concept to avoid looters etc
Say clear an area of about ½ sq mile to remove interest in your location and after all, if things have broken down. fires would go unchecked and destroy whole districts
Extreme measures for extreme times

Re: economic collapse // SHTF
scenario's are difficult things to discuss-full of what ifs and buts, and it all depends on the area/location where you live, clearing a half a mile area is easier in a low populated area than say a large housing estate, i mean what are you going to do? torch all the empty abandoned houses in your area so nothing left for looters to loot?? or just clear out the food and "usefull" stuff left behind? the looters will still come and smash the place up and set fire to it when they've finished looting.
