Great thoughts!
So many famillies are more into or think about self sufficiencey now. Keeping chickens is not uncommon - I work in a primary school and quite a few of the children have chickens at home, (and no we aren't a village school though the countryside isn't far!) Last year almost half our class had a patch on the local allotment. A lot of us mums talk about bulk buying in Lidls etc or if able, places like Cost Co or Cash and Carry for purely ecconomical reasons. We teach the children so much about recyling and saving energy and water now in schools that ecco measures of preserving what we have is becoming second nature to more and more famillies now. So I think that drip feeding people with this sort of valuable information will make a difference as slowly more of the general population think about how they live these days. Lots of people make jams, preserves and chutneys now judging from how many people bought the last book from "the book people" at work entitled Preserves and Jam making ( or some such title. ) Also the media and availability of all the satalite channels can help (as well as hinder,) in this. There are more programes with the "Mend and make do" attitudes that we had during war time and more interest in them I feel. You just need to get people to make that connection with current ecconomical and world climate, both political and actual, then I think more people will think about prepping even if they don't realise they are doing it!

Agreed. Some people sneer a bit and say its not prepping its the womens institute - but women are the biggest preppers as they always had to cope alone when men were off fighting wars. The WRI ran the country during WW2 lol - such a lot of skills that we need to re-learn now.

Slow and constant pressure is a sure and certain way of shifting cultural attitudes and, although slow, eventually forms a strongly held and unquestioned set of beliefs. Just takes a long time that is all. As an example, consider the effect of 80 years of Disney cartoons (in which animals behave like little humans) have had on attitudes to animals in western culture.PreppingPingu wrote:We teach the children so much about recyling and saving energy and water now in schools that ecco measures of preserving what we have is becoming second nature to more and more famillies now.
