I really dont have the option to bug out as my daughter isn't even school age yet. This means in a SHTF situation the only option is to dig in and defend my home. Not easy.
When the dust settles though and law and order is restored, my main worry is that those who have defended their homes will be harshly sentenced for doing so.

Re: Home and self-defence
I would put plywood and/or pine planks over all the windows. Grab the barbed wire out the shed and put it up on the fence load my (won't mention) and keep it on hand besides that take dog for a walk, drink some coffee and continue with everyday life. Also might put car blocking of road?
Re: Home and self-defence
What ways are people going to make their homes/retreats look uninviting? Ive been thinking about this alot recently. I've started walking down the road looking at every house I pass thinking if I would or wouldnt have a look inside if I was that desperate for food or water it was my last hope.
Anyone any interesting ideas?

Now that would be a magazine I would like to read!!the7ps wrote:I remember as a kid I got a combat and survival (or words to that effect) catalogue and it was selling shotgun landmines and gate mines. I could not believe it. Then, found another magazine that showed you how to make them with just 4 everyday household items and a shotgun shell.
So simple, so bloody effective. Worst comes to the worst ill dot a few around the garden, just in case...
Re: Home and self-defence
I think if you can make the front look as if its already been raided then you're half way there, so maybe strengthen internal fortressing whilst breaking windows at the front...let the front garden be overgrown just a burnt out car or something, this is my thinking anyway. Obviously depends on the kind of building you live in -maybe those double aspects might seem like a bad idea in the futurethe7ps wrote:What ways are people going to make their homes/retreats look uninviting? Re: Home and self-defence
Certainly make your front garden look unkept, plant a few prickly shrubs along a boundary which you can keep tidy now but let grow madly when the time arises. Dirty windows etc. Rubbish in the same quantity as your neighbours even if you dsipose of it in other ways. But don't make your house stand out from the rest, you need to blend in otherwise you still become a target.Alleycat wrote:I think if you can make the front look as if its already been raided then you're half way there, so maybe strengthen internal fortressing whilst breaking windows at the front...let the front garden be overgrown just a burnt out car or something, this is my thinking anyway.
