Prepping my mind and body Ahmmmm
Prepping my mind and body Ahmmmm
Only been prepping properly for about a year although I do travel up to Inverness from Glasgow a couple of times a month and have always taken a sleeping bag, some water and choccies. I got seriously caught out December 2010 when the weather came in really quick in central and western Scotland but fortunately had the sleeping bag and food still in the boot of my car from the trip to Inverness a few days before, that saw me through the 22 hours I was in my car, stuck on the motorway in the snow. Gave me a lot of time to think about how lucky I was to have been prepared although after about 6 hours I began to realise how unprepared my mind was for the situation I found myself in. Started worrying about realistic stuff like if I had enough fuel in the car to keep the heater on all night, if I was drinking enough water then it went onto things liked how vulnerable I felt, how I would react if I was stuck here and someone wanted to take my food, my sleeping bag, my water. What would they do I tried to defend it - what would I do!! what might happen to me. About 2am I was freaking out and some days later, after I had arrived safe and sound I thought that if I was to be truly prepared then I had to prepare my mind. It was at this point I began considering my options and what I really needed to do to be prepared in mind, body and resources. It's not only been about having enough spam, beans and water for me but also re-tuning my head about how I would deal with different situations and try to see as many options as possible. Not sure if I am 100% there yet but finding forums like this and reading about other peoples activities and attitudes is a great help.

You've hit on something that most don't - maybe because they've never been stuck on a motorway for 20 odd hours lol in the snow ! And I'd say that mind is more than 50% of the battle. This is where wee ratty Scots grannies win hands down

couldn't agree more - being mentally prepared is as important as being prepped out with all the equipment.
I honestly don't know if I mentally could deal with an out and out end of the world situation. I probably would hold onto my scrupples for the lenght of time my daughter is alive and with me, but if something happened to her, think I would loose the plot quite quickly after that.

Yeah, totally agree with you. It's definately the last thing we want and as I've said to family and friends I really hope, with every bone in my body that I am wasting my money and time. The one and only reason I prep is to try and ensure my wife and sons survival if it all went south. If they went, then not really sure what would be left for me. But thats getting all a little morbid now I just think the worse that will happen is we'll get snowed in and the shops won't get supplies. If that happens then there's a party for my family and friends at our place Mental note to Paul - need to at booze to prep list !!maxilaura wrote:couldn't agree more - being mentally prepared is as important as being prepped out with all the equipment.

that's why you need go design for yourself a cult way of thinking that can help you to get through the situation. Some kind of DIY spirituality, meditation, mantra or stuff that gives you tranquility but alertness and readiness for action.
