Bulk Food Supplies

Post by Chef »

Hey all, I've been looking through the forums and then looking online at different types of bulk food, freeze dried, dehydrated, etc., it seems to me that as soon as you put freeze dried into Google you get 'survival rations', 'expedition rations' and the like and the price is imho extortionate, seems like it's a case of "Ah good another survivalist/prepper, whack the price up a bit BillyBob, lets sting these suckers"! Anyone else think this?

Although I've done lots of bulk ordering for restaurants it's not really the same, the majority of our orders were fresh meat/fish/produce delivered daily/weekly, we didn't use anything dried really except rice and spices, that kinda thing.

I found this place whilst looking and wondered what you thought of the prices?

Many thanks

Can't find any freeze-dried items on there —granted, I didn't look very long!— but just looking over it there seems to be some useful and affordable stuff. I liked the preserved olives in a packet — I've got limited storage space so I prefer to use packets over tins!

Ah sorry, yeah in the end I picked 'an' item which was powdered milk to just try and shop around and get good prices on without it being classed as survival food and ended up at that store, I thought if I could make a list of items needed and then search for them one by one trying normal stores I might come across somewhere that does the lot but not at 'tourist' prices if you see what I mean? (I confuse myself sometimes) lol.

That's a good plan. I know exactly what you mean about certain people being savvy to preppers/survivalists and jacking up the price. The bottled water on there is good — I've heard bad things about storing water in plastic, so an affordable source for glass bottled water is always useful.
