Pure caffeine powder

Post by Bear86 »

Ok i was thinking about putting caffeine powder in my bob as a source of energy, most people have coffee saches but i don't like coffee and red bull would weigh me down. I do feel it would be important to have something to pick up the energy levels, incase you have to work or walk through the night to be safe and so you are at maximum concentration at a time of disaster.

Has anyone tried caffeine powder can they reccomend it or would they advise to leave it alone. I can see the drawbacks such as it been a whitepowder which may look slightly ilegal. :?

Whats peoples opinions on the matter?

You might want to be real careful with pure caffeine - it is toxic in highish doses. I remember one time I had too many coffees one morning and my heart started beating really, really fast. It was like I had just run a 400m race at full tilt. I thought I was gonna die - lucky I was in my mid 20's at the time and very fit. I doubt my heart would make it through that now.

My vote is leave it alone.

a) you do not need little bags of white powder on your person - no good can come of that.
b) in a bug out situation you may need to grab sleep where you can. If you are all hopped up on caffeine then you will be laying there wide eyed when you could be getting sleep to prepare for the next day.
c) if a SHTF situation lasts a while then sooner or later you are going to need to learn to do without caffeine. I have quit many times - it is about two weeks of headaches and irritability. Perhaps just carry some sachets of instant coffee with you to ease you out of the dependency and for trade.

From wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine

The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on individual sensitivity, but is estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass or roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult. Though achieving lethal dose with caffeine would be exceptionally difficult with regular coffee, there have been reported deaths from overdosing on caffeine pills, with serious symptoms of overdose requiring hospitalization occurring from as little as 2 grams of caffeine. An exception to this would be taking a drug such as fluvoxamine or levofloxacin, which blocks the liver enzyme responsible for the metabolism of caffeine, thus increasing the central effects and blood concentrations of caffeine five-fold. Death typically occurs due to ventricular fibrillation caused by effects of caffeine on the cardiovascular system.

preppers will survive by having strong determination not with substances. What is wrong with a spoon full of honey? easy to carry and good for you unlike caffeine. Caffeine is toxic in large doses and the plant from where it is derived uses it as a pesticide.

@Bear86 ~ You're better off sticking a bag of glucose in your 'bob', alot lighter than honey, not as messy if anything gets damaged, easily mixed with whatever you're hydrating with and easily assimilated by your body.

Just make sure the container is well marked, wouldn't want to get caught by the 'substance control police' thinking it was something else.

I think the question is how are you going to measure the dosage and if you need a buzz in a hurry, are you really going to get out the micro scales to weigh out to the nearest 1/100 of a gram?

I have used raw caffeine powder for extended periods as part of a homemade sports supplement.

I've been upto doses of 800mg per day.

I took it in 200mg doses along with 30mg of ephedrine and 75mg of aspirin at a maximum of 4 times per day.

High dose caffeine will keep you marching long after normal fatigue but you will pay a price for it later.
If you've got to stay alert and keep moving, I think that caffeine is perfect.
Just remember you will crash and need rest properly to restore your CNS.

You don't need scales to measure it, just buy a 0.5ml spoon, this provides 280mg of caffeine when level. I'd say use half of that.

I no longer use them for weight training, but I have kept 1000 tablets of ephedrine for when I need to get to the hills faster than zombies

Just to add a little info about stimulant use during an emergency:

"British troops used 72 million amphetamine tablets in the second world war and the RAF used so many that "Methedrine won the Battle of Britain" according to one report." (Grant, D.N.W.; Air Force, UK, 1944)

I second everybody who said dont touch it. Too easy to drop dead with that stuff, and for every high there is a low that follows  in the low you'd be useless and vulnerable.

OP is correct to consider this.

I would defo take some if I had a large journey ahead of me, wether driving or on foot Caffeine can see you through dangerous periods when your dropping off but cant afford to stop.

If you were escaping or being pursued this would enable you to gain a edge on whoever is after you.

You would be suprised who much caffeine a average uk office worker gets through a day. Cans of Coke and coffees... its unreal.

US Special Forces in Vietnam were issued with "uppers" during missions. The results were unreal. A twig snapping half a mile away and you are on it like a shot... a leave quivering a field away and your aware of it. Iv carried out some tests myself during hunts, results very positive.

A BOB is for use in times of dire need. Things like staying alive make a mockery of "its bad for you".

OP needs to have a think about his needs and requirements and musnt be swayed by people who dont understand them.
