Which I bought in my local Waitrose a few years ago. Waitrose don't sell them any more and when I contacted Burro De Paoli they told me that they don't export to the UK any more but the tins are freely available in Italian supermarkets. I did not explore the possibility of a personal import of a pallet or two. Perhaps someone else will?
I also have a dozen or so of the Kraft tinned cheese from Tesco but they took it off their availability list over a year ago so not available in the UK again. Lots of Arabic on the tin so I suspect made for a different market.
In the far past I have used Primula cheese in tubes as a butter substitute and it stores very well BUT this was 'ambient store Primula' not 'chill store Primula' . According to Kavli Ltd it is still available but I have failed to find any for the last couple of years and they won't tell me who they sell to. You can identify it as the top of the tube does not have a colour flash like these. The 'chill store' stuff goes off quite quickly in a cupboard, don't bother trying.
But it states that the canned butter only has a shelf life of a year. I would only be storing this for a proper emergency situation - not just cos I'd ran out and the shops had shut for the evening. I thought canned butter lasted longer than 12 months?
Margarine has no goodness in it whatsoever but it might be useful for cooking with other stuff after TSHTF. It only differs slightly from plastic in it's molecular structure. The fact that it was invented by a French Chemist speaks volumes.
Try putting a blob of margarine on the floor outside and a similar blob of butter. Insects will totally ignore the margarine and it will sit there for days. They aren't stupid.
For canning/jarring butter there are some good youtube vids. You need to melt it and stir it as it cools to stop it seperating. There is more than that involved but I was only flicking through when I watched the vid and thta is what I remember.
Hi there, I know that this thread's been dormant for aeons - but I wanted to update on the approved foods stocklist. There are 2.5kg tins of peeled plum toms for £1.49 with loadsa date left on them (i think 1yr +), I've ordered 4 tins - I'll make chutney with one, pasta sauce with one and put the other two to stock. Also good was the cous cous ( as usual), the thai curry paste, ketchup, brown sauce, hot chocolate (they have instant that needs only boiled water) and tinned ham. I've used them for ages and I do really like them - they're no bother to deal with & I think that £7.50 for 50kg of food delivered into my hall is actually a bit of a bargain compared to the labour of moving it all (although the courier always looks at me as though he'd like to murder me as he struggles up the path with box after box.....)
I started a bit of a food co-op at work and a few of us get together and order piles of stuff to save delivery costs (i'm the only one prepping everybody else just seems to need loads for kids lunches!).
