Help!
I think I've just pulled something out my garden by mistake. I thought it was a rogue weed, but I think it may be a veg plant that I put in earlier in the year. The stalk has got tiny bristly hairs on it (quite sharp) and at the top of the plant there are clumps of small purple flowers. Anyone got any clue as to what this may be? I would take a photo but I don't have a photobucket/flickr account...

I'm in Area 7 !
Re: Help!
No, I don't think it is. In the container, there are three plants, evenly spaced - this leads me to believe that I planted them intentionally earlier in the year, but didn't label them!Moony wrote:Green Alkanet ? I've got loads in my garden and it just won't die !

Re: Help!
Its Comfrey. It is edible, but is used more as a green manure. Soaked in water it makes a very good, if smelly, liquid manure. You can cut it right down 4 times a year, and compost it. High in Potash- so good for spuds. I grow it for just that reason. The old herbalists called it 'Boneset' used as a poultice / plaster for broken bones. Comfrey tea is said to be good for rhe constitution.
Only problem is it can be invasive. Hope that helps.
