Hi
How about a microlight or gyrocoptor?
I don't know anything about them, but seem like very tiny planes / helicopters.
Cheers

Bugging Out ?
Re: Bugging Out ?
I think if the worst was to come. My family would probably head towards our Narrow Boat. We usually always keep supplies on there. Keep traveling along the waterways and canals. Thats one of our many plans.

Re: Bugging Out ?
that was my origional bol as it would be alot safer than most land based bol's (and you can just unmoore and leave if things go downhill) but then i went for a tour with bw and i realised how managed the waterways are, the locks alone need constant maintanance otherwise they leak and the whole cannal drains into the one below and your left tilting on a damp mud bathmrboom wrote:I think if the worst was to come. Re: Bugging Out ?
But thats the same as everything. Roads need maintenence as much as the locks on the canals. If not more. I think the waterways would be a safe place to be. As I said before its only 1 of many backup plans if something does happen. I think there would be so many more people traveling on the roads and backstreets than on the canals. Always best to have as many options and backup plans as possible.edward.21 wrote:that was my origional bol as it would be alot safer than most land based bol's (and you can just unmoore and leave if things go downhill) but then i went for a tour with bw and i realised how managed the waterways are, the locks alone need constant maintanance otherwise they leak and the whole cannal drains into the one below and your left tilting on a damp mud bath

Re: Bugging Out ?
dont travel ON roads whilst TSHTF..there will either be roadblocks or they will be impassible with refugees...what you need to do is PARALLEL using landmarks to guide you.
Re: Bugging Out ?
I agree. I was trying to point out that there would be more trouble on the roads than on the waterways and canals. BTW what's TSHTF???bulldogeagle wrote:dont travel ON roads whilst TSHTF..there will either be roadblocks or they will be impassible with refugees...what you need to do is PARALLEL using landmarks to guide you.

Re: Bugging Out ?
your probably ok on normal waterways-unless you come up against a weir, on canals you may find the lock gates against you.mrboom wrote:there would be more trouble on the roads than on the waterways and canals.bulldogeagle wrote:dont travel ON roads whilst TSHTF..there will either be roadblocks or they will be impassible with refugees...what you need to do is PARALLEL using landmarks to guide you.
Re: Bugging Out ?
This has crossed my mind many times. Last thing I would want would be to get to a Lock and it to be broken or in worst case scenario not working at all. Maybe a route planner is in order. Locks are relatively easy to work. I think if I was in my Canoe it wouldnt be a problem as i could just go around the locks on land. But as for our Narrowboat this would be a big problem. :-/bulldogeagle wrote:your probably ok on normal waterways-unless you come up against a weir, on canals you may find the lock gates against you.mrboom wrote:there would be more trouble on the roads than on the waterways and canals.bulldogeagle wrote:dont travel ON roads whilst TSHTF..there will either be roadblocks or they will be impassible with refugees...what you need to do is PARALLEL using landmarks to guide you.

Re: Bugging Out ?
you could also find the locks taken over by yobs or worse-an armed group. it might be an idea to have a map of your route and see how many locks could be a problem, forewarned is forearmed i think is the phrase.mrboom wrote: Last thing I would want would be to get to a Lock and it to be broken or in worst case scenario not working at all.
