TESCO FINEST CORN FED CHICKEN £1 EACH - HAVE BOUGHT 8! On-line deal only I believe and VERY time sensitive.
We all know times are getting tough - especially for me at the moment.
I started shopping on-line - this has saved me tons of money as I am no longer 'impulse' buying.
However I also shop via Mysupermarket.com - this gives you the opportunity of comparing prices with 4 supermarkets.
My Supermarket details all the offers of all four supermarkets, and also offers MONEY BACK BUYS.
Yesterday I did my normal shop - which is where I found the Tesco Finest chickens for £1 each - I put another order in this morning but to give you an idea of costings this is the small order I put in today:
5 Tesco finest corn fed chickens = £5 (price should have been £33.18)
160 Typhoo Teabags - normal price £3.99 - on offer for £1.99 PLUS 50P CASHBACK
Colgate cavity protection regular toothpaste 100ml normal price £1.39 on offer £1 with 50p CASHBACK
Country Life butter normal price £1.40 offer price £1 with 50p CASHBACK
Flora Buttery normal price £1.97 offer .97p
So, 5 x chicken, 2 x colgate toothpaste, 1 x 160 teabags, 2 x butter and 1 x flora buttery spread cost me £10.43 (plus £4.50 delivery) minus £2.50 cashback so the whole lot including delivery cost me £11.93
Another nice little bonus - two of the chickens sent yesterday were the larger ones at £7.50 each normal price
If you do not shop on line I would suggest you look at mysupermarket.com. The cashback is sent via PayPal (so you need an account) within a week or so of the shop - been using this for weeks and you do get the money back!

Hope some of you are lucky!

Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
i would be very careful of eating chickens at only £1 each..sounds a bit iffy to me but then i dont eat ANY supermarket meat,we buy chickens from a farm that has a stall at one of our local markets, it costs maybe a £1-£1.50 above normal price but we know it free range and not factory bred.
Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
The chickens are the Tesco Finest range - corn fed - normally £5 - 7 each - on a time and area sensitive offer (lost leader).
There is nothing wrong with them so if you can see the deal go for it. I can still see it via mysupermarket.com in Lancashire - although it appears as if the offer has been removed from the main Tesco site.
However if you start using mysupermarket.com you will be able to see all the deals yourself under "my savvy buys"

Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
sorry friend, but i still think anything that costs £5-£7 normally being offered for £1 is a tad iffy, supermarkets are not known for their generosity, like i said i dont eat supermarket meat, i find it flavourless and grisly, i like to know what i am eating, and we all know about Tesco chickens from Mr. Hugh F-W dont we?? i'm sure he'd have something to say about this!
Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
Although I'm vegetarian I have to say I like your approach to meat buldog. If I ever ate meat again (doubtful) I would buy it local, from a farmer that I can go to, speak to and see the animals. If we were to look at the price and try to save on food then this can only be bad in my opinion. I'm not stuffed with dosh but right after rent the biggest spending for my household is food. Because good healthy food without artificial stuff means good healthy bodies. If on the other hand you buy chicken that's been fed with another chicken (that happens on big scale factory farms) or some other unnatural stuff for that animal then eventualy you'll eat that cr*p too because what it eats is being stored in the flesh which you then eat...
I'm not saying that the chicken from your link wolfpup isn't good, I don't know that. I'm just agreeing with buldog on the way he buys his meat

Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
I'm veggie, but Tesco are well known for loss leaders, and also well known for glitches in their computer systems that sometimes mean you get paid to shop there - there's a whole thread on it on moneysavingexpert. I'd trust the offer, absolutely, especially with it being the Finest range - well done you, wolfpup!
Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
I also am a vegetarian - have been for over 25 years. I do buy meat however - for my dogs. They are fed on the BARF diet - and I just could not resist the chance to feed them whole chicken at £1 each instead of just the chicken carcases I get from my local butcher.
Just because something is cheap it does not HAVE to mean something is wrong with it. The chickens have a week's use by date on them - which is the most you can hope for on fresh meat - even I know that.
Lost Leaders have been a part of supermarket deals for years - giving away something at a ridiculous price - in the hope that you will then buy more stuff - dragging in people who would not normally shop there - overall increasing their turnover.

Re: TIME SENSITIVE OFFER + saving pennies wherever I can
we used to live not far from a farm that supplied chicken to one of the main supermarkets, the chickens were taken out of huge sheds, at about 6-8 weeks old,( do you really want to eat BABY meat?) full of growth hormones, packed into crates 10 high, LIVE, can you image the stress hormones going into the meat on a long voyaage to the slaughter house, there is no such thing these days as a LOCAL slaughter house they are all miles away. no thanks i'll buy my meat locally where i know the farmer or small holder personally and i know the meat is free range, it may cost a bit more.
