nut tree
Near to where I live is a small woodland park that use to be a garden of a big house the council has thankfully forgotten about it so a group of us have adopted it we have a lovley cherry, apples both eating and cooking greengages, loads of blackberrys and I have just discovered that there is a cultivated hazel nut tree which looks like at some point it has been copiced so I will hopefully start to copice it again this winter. Luckly although most people go for the apples not a lot of people will go for the hazel so I will be the only one taking the nuts.

Re: nut tree
Excellent! A quiet, local form of protein, thats really good. I have a cobnut in my garden, though the squirrels got everything last year.... there's another one grown up on the rec. ground opposite me ... and now that I know the difference between the nut casings of horse chestnut and sweet chestnut, I'm just starting to keep watch for whether there's any sweet chestnuts locally.
I have a dozen plums on my kitchen table from the rec. ground, and I'm aiming for the old apple orchard at the edge of a small local nature reserve to get *lots* of apples. And I've never lived in a place with so many blackberrying spots
