Re: German site selling tinned bread /butter/ cheese etc
Thx Tigs. Looks like a good site. I did buy some canned cheese from a Dutch company so might get some more plus the butter.
Love the idea of the liqueur cakes mind
And chuckled at the canned cheeseburger!!!!

Nice one Tigs, been looking at ordering off that site myself,
to be honest though I found the bit about the bread a little....underhand.
Clearly they’re not too subtly trying to infer their bread will still be good in 50 years, without actually committing themselves.
Also they seem to have completely glossed over the fact food may still be edible but will have almost certainly seen great losses in its nutritional value.

The "principles of long term storage" links on this companies' website might be of interest to some forum-members as they do give good info on factors that influence food spoilage and how to minimise it. It is also clear that alot of Best before date submissions are more to do with fear of any potential litigation than real danger of poisoning due to spoilage of long term stored foodstuffs. As Triple_sod mentioned however, 'edible' does not mean it retains nutritional value !

Great company to deal with. Only wish I had more money to spend there!

Yup brilliant company (owned by british parent company) .... very easy to order from and quick delivery.
I have bread cake and sausage from them and so long as the tins are ok it should be good for a couple of decades. (helps if you like ryebread/ blackbread)

Re: German site selling tinned bread /butter/ cheese etc
ok opened a tin of amaranth bread was expecting it to be like dutch breads or crackers but its just like normal bread but round , amaranth bread looks like the closet thing to British white bread the site sells the only difference is its a sour dough bread , tried two slices one toast the other not , spread some of the lightly salted butter on half a slice of each toasted and not toasted with bread is full of flavour and from the tin is just like normal bread as far as i can see , the butter taste a little different from what i am used to slightly sweeter not really sure , it melts well on the toast also tried the cheese again it tastes a little sweeter the what i am used to but it tastes good it also melts ok not the same as cheddar but acceptable ( might be down to it being processed ) will try one of the cakes later but so far i am quite happy with the results

Re: German site selling tinned bread /butter/ cheese etc
Tigs, Hobo
When you ordered did the stuff ship from Germany or from within the UK.
When it arrived what did the packaging look like. Was it obvious it was tinned food? The reason I ask is that I live in a small village and everybody pretty much knows everybody elses business. I'm constantly aware of OPSEC and would not like to alert the village to my preparations.
So, do does the stuff come in anonymous boxes? With little to give it away?

Hi
It arrived to us in a plain brown box with "Conserva.de on the lable .... seemed very grey.
Not like Emergency food storage stuff which comes with the logo and website plastered all over the boxes!
