This topic has probably been discussed elsewhere in which case, I apologise and maybe one of the mods can direct me to that thread.
If not, I would be interested to hear your views on whether you would BI or BO but before you give your answer, maybe you could identify whether you are male or female, single, married or with kids, whether you live in urban or rural setting. Reason I ask that is that it may predicate your answer.

Bug in or bug out
I'm in Area 1
Re: Bug in or bug out
Of course circumstances tend to influence plans, when you're a family of 5, mother and daughter both have CFS bugging out is not a serious option, if it became one it would most likeley allready be to late.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: Bug in or bug out
Before we get into It, I think it’s worth defining some terms here;
For me bugging out means having a bug out location(s), consisting of a bit more than a vague idea you’ll go camp out in some woods you once drove past. Basically we're talking; second property or friends/family/survival group out in the country.

I will start it off then.
I am female and single living in a rural location.
My plan would be to bug in.
Firstly, I live in the most rural location of my family and would hope that they would be bugging out to my place (if they understood the concept - they think I am nuts as it is!), so I would therefore wish to stay where I am to meet them here.
From a practical point of view though, bugging in is my only option. With four square walls around me, I think I would have a better chance as a single female of protecting myself and my food stores. I do not have the physical stamina or strength to be bugging out to carry sufficient stuff for me to go and live on the moors or the capability of suriving on them. I do not have a second home and whilst I could bug out to family, they live in the South East which is more likely to be hit by terrorism, nuclear accidents, pandemics etc.
What are others views?

I am male and single; living in a rural location.
My plan would be to bug in.
I live in the most rural location of my family, my father lives 1 mile from me, my sister and Mum 185 miles away on the Kent coast
I would stay where I am and try to get them to meet here.
I do have a BOB with a 72 hr kit inside, and enough local knowledge to head where others may not; for safety if required. This would be a last resort though.

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Ditto. If the house was threatened, I probably would have to leave - hopefully by car! I would hate to leave my animals though whichis another consideration. However, I have got a travel carry for my cat so she will be coming along at leastpseudonym wrote:I do have a BOB with a 72 hr kit inside, and enough local knowledge to head where others may not; for safety if required. Interested though that as a single male, you are electing to Bug In. I would've thought most single males would have been BO. You have blown a preconceptionMaddie_cat wrote:Ditto. The thing being MC, is that most of my preps are in the house/shed/garden and only small amounts are cached away from the residence.Maddie_cat wrote:Interested though that as a single male, you are electing to Bug In. I would hope to be able to use these without outside interference, but I am pragmatic.
Also, surviving in the woods/off the land is nowhere as easy as people think it is. I tried it for a week a Month ago and it was hard.

Re: Bug in or bug out
I plan to bug in. I think I'd have a better chance surviving in the urban jungle. I keep extensive lists and maps of supplies that i can scavenge after the mass die off/exodus. I'd rather take my chances than become a refugee. I think the key to surviving in the urban jungle with the bandits is only coming out at night and having night vision equipment. Making my house look uninhabited and quietly dealing with threats in a quiet manner.
Even if I was forced to abandon my house I would relocate to a number of urban areas I have selected.
