I have been reading some old posts, regarding short term emergancy scenarios, noticing that a lot of bob and food stores are not necessarily high calorie, has any one looked into or tried weight gain supplements? If yes what would be the pros and cons, should I consider getting some of these shakes/powders? I have four kids, and in a shtf situation wouldnt want to see them suffer from a simple lack of calories. I have had a search through some old posts but not found anything so far.

Personally I would adapt your BOB/family BOB to suit you. If you feel that some of the suggestions given are not suitable then change to put in what you feel is.
The protein drinks given to people to gain weight (I'm thinking people in nursing homes) are OK but I can think of plenty of proper foods that could be used.

other options to consider are milk powder and flavorings such as nesquick, or if your looking for med term shelf life yazoo milkshakes, 6mths unrefrigerated
canned milk maybe an alternative but go for condensed not evaporated as it has added sugar, ( tastes foul though but lots of calories)
try to remember that even in the event of a "shtf" calories need to be balanced not just consumed, fats are just as much a vital scource of calories and energy as sugars, and so are carbohydrates.
a simple meal/snack of a highly odd mix of porridge oats/condensed milk/water/and peanut butter would give a huge boost to your cal intake and give a satifiying "weight" to the meal aswell
any excess could also be left to dry out into a weird flapjack type

Interesting this, as I reckon most Europeans can afford a little weight LOSS! Cody Lundin in his books says as much. As I get older I am developing slight health problems. I have uber high cholesterol and fluctuating blood pressure. So i personally will not worry about putting weight on( even though I am perfect BMI and cycle 150 miles a week).

They are good from the point of view that they have vitamins and minerals added. I'm currently using a 'meal replacement' suppliment as part of a weight loss plan. Each sachet contains loads of protein and vits etc but is only 300 calories. I need 450ml of water and a shaker to get the lumps out. I have to be honest and say I was pretty sick of the flavour after about a week.
There is also research that suggests too much protein is bad for you - it has been suggested that having more than twice the RDA can be harmfull (RDA is 55g for men, 45g for women per day). However, it is also possible to find contradictory research online

Hey man,
Weight gain shakes could be good in some situations, they're generally pretty horrible mixed with water, so having milk to mix them with could be a problem, although they are usually okay to be mixed with water they're just not pleasant.
I also find that they can leave you feeling quite dehydrated, so having a glass of water after drinking one is a good idea.
Also, im pretty sure a human can survive on something like 1000 calories a day in extreme situations, which obviously isn't much, buy if it was only a few day situation a lack of calories would probably only lead to sleepiness, dopiness and possibly a bad mood.
