Girlie Preppers EDC (AKA Handbag!)

Post by Maddie_cat »

Having been scurrilously accused that my EDC (AKA Handbag) weighs a tonne and carries everything bar the kitchen sink – an accusation which regrettably my handbag resembles – thought it would be interesting to see what other Girlie Preppers carry in their EDC. Starting off, this is what I can remember without digging into the depths:

Purse which includes nailfile and tape measure
Additional nail file
Filofax with nail file (!)
Fountain pen & pencil
Numerous biros
Mobile
Tissues
Antiseptic wipes
Lipstick x 3 (eh? Why do I have three lipsticks???)
Face powder
Perfume
Comb
Sanitary items (great for making slippers!)
Hair band
Business cards with holder
Survival tin
First aid kit
Fold up cup
KFS
Should be a snickers but I ate that
Emergency blanket
Emergency poncho
Chewing gum
Cheap pen knife – want to get a decent multi tool although as sure as day follows night, cheap pen knife will remain!!!
Cheap scalpel knife
Torch x 3 (hey – its dark in Devon!!!)
Screwdriver – plain and cross head
Mask
Water purification tablets
Umbrella
Sunglasses
Change of undies (no toothbrush tho  )
Nailfile
Diarrhoea tablets
Paracetomol

Think that is enough!

Thats the kind of thing I would carry sans sanitary equipment and makeup, but as I rarely leave the house as I work from home, I have little need for an everyday carry list.

Well, girlie prepper here, but I don't carry half that stuff  mind you, like Nick, I work from home. Mine has:
- purse - normal stuff, plus a cc-sized oblong of fresnel magnifier.
- keyring - ResQme, whistle, led light. Keys!
- phone
- hand sanitiser
- paracetemol
- anti-diahhrrrree.... you know what I mean!
- tissues
- nail clipper.
- hand cream.
- sunglasses.
- pencils - not always anything specific to write on tho

Dear me. I'm not very good, am I! I do want a multitool. Mind you, I'm off to France next week, and the prep list is a lot more impressive than this!

Another girlie prepper here! Reading this has prompted me to have a clear out of my EDC - a 20 ltr Osprey backpack. This is what's going back in the bag.

Main compartment:
Marmot raincoat (easily squishable into a small space, but still a proper coat)
Multimat sit mat
Diary with address book
First aid kit in round metal tin (latex gloves, bandage, paracetamol, plasters, set of 2 tiny tweezers, immodium, rennies, antiseptic wipes, skin closures, god knows how many safety pins)
iPod
Phone

Separate small top zipped section:
Fan (old school ladies' flappy fan. Useful on public transport when it gets too hot)
Emergency mylar (?) blanket
Spectacles
Sunglasses
2 x torches (what can I say? I like torches!)
Lighter
Mini travel sewing kit
5m paracord
Glowstick
Lip gloss
Poncy rose salve/cream (it smells nice and makes me happy)
2 x hand sanitisers
Tea tree blemish stick (good at a pinch on small cuts)
Climber Swiss Army Knife (well hidden)
Earphone splitter so 2 people can listen to the iPod
Handcream
All purpose balm
Multiple packets of tissues
USB charger for phone
Folding mirror/hairbrush combo
Purse
Oyster card
Work pass
Ventolin inhaler

Pockets in hip straps:
Wet wipes
Yet more tissues
Keys

Outside pocket:
Cycling map for Central London from TfL

When I cycle in, this lot has cycle clothing, neon tabard, bike lights, wash kit, deodorant, travel towel and a bike helmet (there's a clip on the outside of the bag for that) added to it.

I need to top up the first aid kit, add a small radio and some emergency food.

I have been likened to Mary Poppins. One friend calls my bag a 'Mum bag' despite me being the least maternal person I know. And yet, it being a backpack with space to spare, you'd never know I had that little lot in there! I have had various bags over the years and this has been the most successful.
