Crossbow or recurve bow?

Post by Cptmonkee »

So I am lumped with this dilemma.
I love how powerful and useful a crossbow would be in a shtf situation but i'm also aware of how useful a recurve would be and how much easier it would be to maintain in said shtf situation.
Basically opinions and thoughts as I am looking at a Samick Polaris with a 40lb draw weight :?:

I'd say it balances out, but it's a long way down that SHTF road.

Crossbow accurate and can be left loaded ready but slow to load even with a cocking rope, but are relatively low maintainance too especially recurve versions.

Recurve bow takes much more practice to be as accurate but is faster to load, simpler and one can be improvised.

Either way no one becomes as good as a Robin Hood/Johnny Rambo without alot of practice and arrows/bolts aren't cheap, and either way there's fun to be had in the here and now, I'd start where you can afford and keep going, if you are into Archery, Shooting, or Catapulting, try everything especially if you have a friend who can let you have a go on theirs ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Thanks I'd sort of figured as much. I like the recurve above all other bows, hence why I mentioned it, and my air rifles doesnt present the challenge im lookimg for tbh.
Point and pull the trigger just doesnt feel right for me

The only thing with recurve bows is their length. I have a 45lb Winstar II bow and it's taken about a year to shoot the gold (center of target) consistently at 70 yards. If you go with the recurve bow join a club and learn the skill. Personally I think it's a worthwhile skill.
