That is when conducting an organised operation. If you are in a situation where all around you is chaos you need to find a stronghold first and foremost. Watch some of the Andy McNabs Tour of Duty episodes, a squad from the RHA get ambushed and their 110s are rendered un-usable. All around them erupts into chaos, they don't have an organised plan because it's spontaneous and they just find themselves a easily dependable building and stick to 2 rooms (This is a typical 8 man squad)

You can't have fall back points if you are coming under contact from multiple directions at once. Not mentioning we are talking about trained soldiers with assault rifles etc etc not 1 or 2 civilians in a residential area. Each to their own but I know what I am doing and that is limiting myself to the upper floor using the stairs as a choke point to force people to come up one by one making it much easier to defend.

Therefore you have a fall back plan and a choke point. Your upper floor will be your Keep. Regarding Chaos do we not “Prepare” for Chaos ?. That’s why we are having our conversation ?. Intelligent informed people planning for the worst case scenario.

I suppose so, but I'm not having multiple points of defence I am going straight for the upstairs and barricading and defending myself from up there

I think that JamesMR has made some excellent points, especially about camouflaging your location. If it blends in and does not look like an appealing target it will likely be left alone in the first round of looting. Sustained looting is another matter. Any method to make your "home harder to attack and gain entry" is at best only going to be a delaying tactic and will only slow down the perpetrators. If you stop two or three from gaining entry they will come back with a dozen. Worse still if you make it too difficult and they get frustrated they may just burn you out! If you live in a building with a few flats if the SHTF it would be a good time to organize a few neighbours to form a neighbourhood watch. A dozen guys armed with a few lengths of plank make a tidy deterrent.

I am thinking of ways of making my home harder to attack and gain entry. IV been burgaled this week even though I live in a upper flat. They gained access via the Felix roof windows. It seems they have a weakness she. Bounced on they pop open. Great.

Get some custom made bars fitted to the inside so they can not be removed from outside as long as you still have an exit incase of fire, simple & effective They wont need to be inch thick steel as chances are as soon as the wouldbe intruder sees them they will move on to easier targets.

And when the SHTF dont worry anything goes Then add some power to them

If we don't want to go the whole hog with barbed wire/booby traps/phasers on kill/nuclear landmines etc, we could just sprinkle a few dummy signs and warning tape around like these examples. None are guaranteed to burglar-proof our properties of course, but any crook with an ounce of brains would be deterred and go break into some other poor shmuck's place instead..

I'd think you would be a lot safer just quietly digging a cellar room under the house with a very hidden hatch, and keeping it prepped with plenty water and snacks.
